Samsung Epic 4G Touch Front Panel Assembly Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing the front panel assembly.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Insert a plastic opening tool or your fingernail into the opening near the left side of the headphone jack.

  • Pry the opening tool downward to pop the rear case from its clips securing it to the midframe.

Remove the rear case by lifting it off.

Step 3 | microSD Card

Press the microSD card into its slot using the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.
  • During reassembly, repeat this process to secure the microSD card in place.

Step 4

Remove the microSD card from its slot.

Step 5 | Battery

Insert plastic opening tool into the gap between the battery and midframe, near the bottom left corner.

Pry the battery upward by pushing down on the plastic opening tool.

Step 6

Remove battery from midframe.

Step 7 | Plastic Midframe

Remove the six 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws holding the midframe to the front panel.

Incorrect prying may lead to difficulties in removing the midframe.

  • Refer to the display assembly diagram with glass facing down for guidance on locating the correct insertion points.
  • The first divot is located to the left of the micro-USB port.
  • The second divot is situated near the corner of the phone, right of the micro-USB port.
  • Additional divots are found approximately two inches to the right of the volume control toggle and slightly right of the volume button.

Insert the plastic opening tool just left of the micro-USB port, prying between the midframe and the display to create a gap.

Position a plastic spudger about 1 mm to the right of the micro-USB port.

  • Pry gently between the midframe and the display using the spudger.
  • Widen the gap carefully until you have enough space to work inside.

Pry about 2 inches to the right of the volume control toggles.

Be careful not to damage adjacent components.

  • Lift the micro-USB end of the front panel assembly.
  • Slide it away from the midframe.

Step 13 | Motherboard Connectors

  • Disconnect the headphone jack/vibrator assembly cable from its connector.
  • Remove the front-facing camera cable connector.
  • Disconnect the digitizer cable from its connector.
  • Separate the display cable from its connector.

Step 14 | Headphone Jack/Vibrator Connector

Disconnect the headphone jack/vibrator assembly cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 15 | Motherboard Assembly

Disconnect the front-facing camera cable with the flat end of a spudger.

Avoid damaging the digitizer display cable.

  • Disconnect the digitizer display cable carefully.

Step 17

Disconnect the display cable connector using a spudger.

Step 18

Remove the two 3 mm Phillips #00 screws.

Lift the micro-USB end of the motherboard away from the display assembly.

Be careful not to snag the motherboard on any cables as you remove it.

  • Pull the micro-USB end down carefully.

Step 20 | Microphone Cover

Ensure the microphone cover is properly seated over the small peg and into the notch.

  • Check that the microphone cover fits snugly onto the display assembly.
  • Verify the cover stays within its designated slot on the display assembly.

If the cover was stuck to the motherboard, reattach it to the display assembly's notch before proceeding.

Step 21 | Front Facing Camera/Earpiece Speaker Assembly

Remove the 2.3 mm Phillips #00 screw that holds the front-facing camera bracket in place.

Disconnect and remove the front-facing camera bracket from the display assembly.

Use tweezers or your fingers to gently remove the front-facing camera/earpiece speaker assembly.

Step 24 | Headphone Jack/Vibrator

Insert the pointed spudger into the gap in the corner of the midframe.

Do not remove the vibrator completely, it is still attached to the headphone jack/vibrator assembly.

  • The vibrator will only come out with the rest of the unit.

Step 25

Insert the flat end of a spudger under the headphone jack and gently pry it loose from the midframe.

Step 26

Disconnect and remove the headphone jack/vibrator assembly from the display assembly.

Step 27 | Front Panel Assembly

Step 27 image

The front panel is still attached.
