Samsung Epic 4G Touch Front Facing Camera/Earpiece Speaker Assembly Replacement

This repair guide covers replacement of the front facing camera/earpiece speaker assembly.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Insert a plastic opening tool or your fingertip into the opening near the left side of the headphone jack.

  • Pry the tool downward to release the rear case from its clips securing it to the midframe.

Remove the rear case by lifting it off.

Step 3 | microSD Card

Press the microSD card gently into its slot with a spudger or your fingernail until you hear a click.

  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.
  • During reassembly, push the microSD card into the slot until it clicks in place.

Step 4

Remove the microSD card from its slot.

Step 5 | Battery

Insert the plastic opening tool into the gap between the battery and midframe, just below and to the left.

  • Pry downward on the plastic opening tool to lift the battery from its housing.

Remove the battery by lifting it out of the midframe.

Step 7 | Plastic Midframe

  • Remove the six Phillips #00 screws with a 4.0 mm driver.

Incorrectly prying at the midframe may cause removal difficulties.

  • Locate the first divot beside the micro-USB port for initial prying.
  • The second divot is situated near the corner, adjacent to the micro-USB port.
  • Prying points are also found two inches right of the volume control toggle and to its right.

Use a plastic opening tool to pry between the midframe and display near the micro-USB port, creating a small gap.

Insert a plastic opening tool approximately 1 mm to the right of the micro-USB port, then carefully pry it between the midframe and the display to increase the gap size.

Locate approximately 2 inches to the right of the volume control toggles.

  • Pry gently in this area using a prying tool.

Remove the cable by gently pulling the front panel assembly outwards, then lifting upwards.

Step 13 | Motherboard Connectors

Locate and identify these connectors:

  • Headphone jack/vibrator assembly cable
  • Front-facing camera cable
  • Digitizer cable
  • Display cable connector

Step 14 | Headphone Jack/Vibrator Connector

Disconnect the headphone jack/vibrator assembly cable using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 15 | Motherboard Assembly

Disconnect the front-facing camera cable connector using the flat end of a spudger.

Careful removal of the digitizer display cable is crucial to avoid damage.

  • Use a spudger to gently pry up on the digitizer display cable connector.
  • Pull the connector away from the logic board.

Step 17

Disconnect the display cable connector using a spudger.

Remove the three 3 mm Phillips #00 screws.

Avoid damaging cables by pulling the micro-USB connector away from the display assembly.

  • Lift the micro-USB end of the motherboard and pull it down carefully.
  • Be mindful to not snag the motherboard on any cables as you remove it.

Step 20 | Front Facing Camera/Earpiece Speaker Assembly

Remove the 2.3mm Phillips #00 screw that holds the front-facing camera bracket to the display assembly.

Release the front-facing camera bracket screws.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding components — risk of further repair complications.

  • Use a T5 Torx driver to loosen and remove the bracket's mounting screws.
  • Gently lift the bracket away from the display assembly.

Use your tweezers or fingers to carefully remove the front-facing camera/earpiece speaker assembly.
