Samsung Captivate Motherboard Replacement

Malfunctions can cause issues like a phone not powering on despite being charged, screen blanks when device turns on, or the device randomly powers off and on.

  • Accessing, replacing, and resolving the Samsung Captivate's Motherboard may be challenging but is possible with caution.
  • The following steps will guide you through this process to resolve your issue.

Step 1 | Battery

Press on the bottom section of the phone.

  • Slide the bottom piece downward to remove the back cover.
  • Lift up the removed back cover.

Lift the battery from its mounting by grasping the base.

Remove and discard the old battery.

Install the new battery securely, following proper polarity orientation.

Step 4 | Rear Case

Insert a spudger under the phone's lower section.

  • Lift and gently push the spudger to move the lower section downwards.
  • The action will expose two hidden screws.

Remove the six 4.5mm #000 Phillips screws.

Forcing the cover may cause cracked plastic.

  • Start at a corner using a spudger to pry rear case from front display.
  • Migrate spudger towards top on both sides, or use a plastic opening tool for ease.
  • When detaching the top, free each side short of center and apply pressure at both corners and center to slide back cover down.

Step 7

Remove and separate the rear case from the phone.

Step 8 | Antenna Cable

Remove the antenna cable from the motherboard using a spudger tool.

  • Pry up one end of the cable from the motherboard's connector.
  • Next, pry up the other end of the cable from the antenna array's connector.

Step 9 | Speaker

Remove the single screw holding the speaker assembly to the LCD using a Phillips 00 screwdriver.

Use the plastic opening tool to gently lift the bottom tab of the ribbon cable connector.

  • Pull out the ribbon cable.
  • Lift up the speaker using a spudger or plastic opening tool, and then carefully remove it by hand.

Step 11 | Camera Assembly

Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to carefully lift the black NEC chip, which is attached to a ribbon cable.

  • Lift the camera assembly gently from the plastic housing.

Step 12 | Motherboard

Careful not to pry against the connector — risk of further damage.

  • Use a spudger to slide under highlighted connectors, starting disconnection.
  • Pry from underneath up, excluding motherboard socket, for complete disconnection.

Step 13

Use care when handling the motherboard, as it is fragile and easily damaged.

  • Support the device with one hand, placing your other hand under the motherboard to prevent it from falling.
  • Lift the motherboard upward carefully using your fingers to avoid applying excessive force.
