Samsung Captivate Earpiece Replacement

  • Earpiece damage or looseness may require replacement.
  • Follow this guide for troubleshooting and repair.

Step 1 | Battery

Press on the bottom section of the phone to release the clips.

  • Slide the bottom piece downward to remove the back cover.
  • Lift up the back cover for access.

Lift the battery from its housing by grasping it at the bottom.

  • Remove the old battery from its compartment.
  • Take the new battery and align it correctly with the compartment's terminals.
  • Insert the new battery into its compartment, ensuring proper contact with the terminals.

Step 4 | Rear Case

Insert a spudger under the phone's bottom section.

  • Lift and push the spudger gently to slide the section down.
  • Reveal two hidden screws.

Remove six 4.5mm #000 Phillips screws.

Forcing the rear case off can crack the plastic.

  • Start at a bottom corner and use the spudger to separate the rear case from the front display.
  • Move the spudger towards the top on both sides, using a plastic opening tool for this step.
  • To detach the top cover, apply backward pressure on both corners with one finger and slide it toward the bottom of the device.

Remove the rear case screws using a T5 Torx driver.

  • Pry the rear case away from the phone body

Step 8 | Antenna Cable

Use a spudger tool to gently pry up the antenna cable from its connector on the motherboard.

  • Pry up the other end of the cable from the antenna array's connector.

Step 9 | Camera Assembly

Use the spudger tool to gently pry up the chip labelled 'NEC'. This will release the chip.

Hold the camera assembly firmly and gently lift it out of the plastic housing.

Step 11 | Motherboard

Avoid prying against the connector — risk of further damage.

  • Slide the spudger under the highlighted connectors, excluding the motherboard socket.
  • Pry upwards from under the connectors to complete disconnection.

Step 12

Careful handling is necessary to avoid damaging internal components.

  • Lift up the motherboard using your fingers, taking care not to touch any of the delicate components underneath.

Step 13 | 3.5mm Headphone Jack

Grasp the audio jack and gently pull upwards.

The attached ribbon cable may be held by a small amount of adhesive.

Step 14 | Earpiece

Remove the earpiece from the 3.5mm audio jack.

  • You will need to replace the entire assembly.
