Samsung Captivate Camera Assembly Replacement

The camera assembly may be damaged by exposure to moisture, vibration, or shock.

  • Replacing the camera assembly is a straightforward process.

Step 1 | Battery

Press the bottom section of the phone and slide it downwards.

  • Lift up the back cover.

Locate the battery and use your finger to pry it loose from the device's housing, lifting upwards to release.

Remove and dispose of the old battery. Install the new battery in its place.

Step 4 | Rear Case

Insert a spudger under the phone's bottom section.

  • Lift the spudger gently and push it forward to release the lower section.
  • The hidden screws will be revealed, allowing access for further disassembly.

Remove the six 4.5mm #000 Phillips screws.

Applying excessive force may cause cracked plastic.

  • Begin at a corner with the spudger to pry apart rear case and front display.
  • Move spudger toward top, using plastic opening tool for easier removal.
  • Apply gentle pressure on both corners while sliding back cover downward.
  • Free each side, stopping short of the center, to avoid damage.

Remove rear case screws.

  • Use a T5 Torx driver to remove all screws securing the rear case.
  • Slide rear case off of the device.

Step 8 | Camera Assembly

Insert spudger tool under chip.

Pry up chip labeled "NEC" until it releases.

Step 9

Gently lift the camera assembly out of the plastic housing.
