Samsung Captivate 3.5mm Headphone Jack Replacement

This repair guide shows you how to replace the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Step 1 | Battery

Press on the bottom section of the phone.

  • Slide the bottom piece downward to remove the back cover.
  • Lift up the back cover

Locate the battery's bottom edge with one finger, then lift upwards to release.

  • Pinch the battery securely with your thumb and index finger.

Step 3

Remove the old battery.

  • Insert the positive terminal of the new battery into its corresponding terminal.
  • Secure the new battery with its retaining clip or bracket.

Step 4 | Rear Case

Position the spudger beneath the phone's lower compartment.

  • Gently lift and slide the spudger downward to expose the two hidden screws.

Remove the six 4.5mm #000 Phillips screws.

Start at a corner and use a spudger to pry the rear case from the front display.

  • Movethe spudger upwards along both sides, using a plastic opening tool for this step if preferred.
  • When detaching the top cover, stop short of the center and apply backward pressure with a finger in the middle, then slide the back cover towards the bottom.

Forcing the cover can result in cracked plastic.

Step 7

Remove the rear case by sliding it off.

  • Locate the clips holding the rear case in place.
  • Gently pry the clips loose with a plastic spudger.

Step 8 | Antenna Cable

Remove the antenna cable from the motherboard using a spudger tool.

  • Pry the other end of the antenna cable loose from the antenna array connector.

Step 9 | Motherboard

Pry carefully to avoid damaging components.

  • Slide the spudger under the highlighted connectors to start disconnection.
  • Pry straight up from underneath, excluding the motherboard socket.

Avoid prying against the connector to prevent further damage.

Step 10

Hold the Motherboard firmly and use your fingers to gently lift it out of its mounting.

Step 11 | 3.5mm Headphone Jack

Release the audio jack by gently pulling upwards while removing the attached ribbon cable.

Be prepared for some adhesive resistance from a small amount of glue holding the ribbon cable in place.
