If you're having trouble hearing phone calls without using speakerphone, it's possible that the earpiece speaker is faulty and requires replacement.
Flip the phone over to expose the back.
Use your finger to carefully lift the top-right corner of the battery nearest to the camera.
Remove the 12 x 3.6 mm Phillips screws from the phone's rear.
Locate the three circular rubber screw covers on the back of the phone.
Some force may be required to dislodge the covers.
Use a 3.6 mm Phillips screwdriver to remove the three new 3.6mm Phillips screws.
Insert the plastic opening tool underneath the chassis near the power button.
Pry the chassis from the phone with a moderate amount of force.
Use the pointed tip of the spudger to carefully pry the power button bracket loose from the rear case.
Rotate the phone onto its side.
Make sure not to lose the power button.
Pry the volume button bracket away from the rear case using the sharp end of a spudger.
Hold the phone at an angle with the volume button facing downwards.
The motherboard contains two separate chips, one above and one below the battery compartment.
Use the flat end of the spudger to carefully lift the four tape connectors straight up from their sockets on the motherboard.
Remove the motherboard connections on the right side carefully.
Pay close attention when removing this connection — risk of damage.
Locate the WiFi antenna near its connection point on the smaller motherboard.
Gently pull the WiFi antenna upwards with your fingers, taking care not to apply too much pressure.
The antenna should now be disconnected from the bottom motherboard.
Locate the lower motherboard near the charging port.
Use a spudger to gently lift the motherboard from the top.
Use a spudger to carefully pry out the earpiece speaker, taking care not to damage its rubber lining.
If the rubber lining falls off, place it back on the earpiece speaker immediately.
