Use heat-resistant gloves and work on a heat-resistant surface to avoid fire or melting hazards.

  • Apply slow, even heat from a heat gun to the edges of the back panel.
  • Avoid focusing heat on one spot for too long, as this can damage the device.
  • Use a Jimmy to check adhesive softness while heating the back panel.
  • Carefully separate the back panel from the device using opening picks and a suction cup once most edges are loose.

  • Safely remove the panel from the device using the suction cup.
  • Be cautious not to let lingering heat cause the adhesive to reattach the panel; lift it before the glue sets back.
