OnePlus Nord Battery Replacement

Discharging the battery below 25% beforehand prevents potential thermal damage risks during disassembly.

  • Battery replacement is required if it's swollen or no longer functional.
  • Take safety precautions when handling a swollen battery.
  • Ensure the battery is discharged to below 25% before disassembling the phone.
  • Replacement adhesive strips are necessary for reassembly.

Step 1 | Loosen the rear glass adhesive

Switch off your phone.

  • iOpener: Heat for at least two minutes to loosen adhesive. Repeat as needed.
  • Or, use a heatbed set to 45°C, or a hair dryer/heat gun/hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone:

    The AMOLED display and internal battery can suffer from heat damage.

Step 2 | Create a gap

Attach a suction cup to the phone's right edge, near its center.

  • Pull on the suction cup to create a space between the rear glass and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert an opening pick along the edge to the bottom right corner.

Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

  • You can now remove the suction cup or continue using it for added grip.

  • Insert a second opening pick under the bottom right corner.
  • Slide the pick along the edge to the top right corner.
  • If cutting is difficult, use the iOpener again to soften the adhesive.

  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Insert the third opening pick under the top right corner of the back cover.

  • Slide the tip along the edge to the top left corner, cutting the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner.

  • Slide it down along the edge to the bottom left corner, cutting the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place; do not remove it yet.

Insert a fifth opening pick under the bottom left corner.

  • Slide it along the edge to the bottom right corner.
  • Continue sliding until you've cut the remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

  • Remove the back cover.
  • Allow the adhesive to cure for at least several minutes by applying strong, steady pressure with your phone or using a stack of heavy books.

Step 9 | Remove the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  • There are ten 3.6 mm-long screws.
  • Screw type: Phillips #00.

Insert the opening pick tip under the motherboard cover.

  • Use the opening pick to lift the motherboard cover up and release the plastic clips.
  • Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 11 | Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery using a spudger and pry the connector straight up from its socket.

Step 12 | Remove the battery

Peel back the red pull tab and the black sticker from the edge of the battery.

  • Pull the tab up steadily to break up the adhesive holding the battery in place.
  • If the adhesive is too strong, use a heat gun to soften it or apply a heated iOpener for two minutes.

Remove the battery.

Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery as it poses a potential safety hazard.

You can reuse old adhesive tape if still sticky; otherwise, replace it with new custom cut adhesive tape.
