This guide requires replacement adhesive for a successful completion of the screen replacement process.
Insert a SIM card eject tool into the small hole in the SIM card tray, located on the upper left edge of the phone.
Press firmly to avoid damaging the tray or surrounding components.
Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.
Prepare an iOpener by applying it to the rear glass for at least three minutes to loosen adhesive underneath.
Careful not to overheat phone; display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.
Use caution when applying force, as damage to the midframe or rear glass is possible.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
Adhesive cooled down? Reheat with your iOpener.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the rear glass.
Remove the back cover.
Remove the metal bracket over the flash assembly connector using a tweezers.
Insert the point of the spudger under the flash assembly cable connector.
Gently pry the connector straight up from its socket.
Remove the motherboard cover.
Disconnect the battery connector with a spudger, prying it straight up from its socket.
It's not necessary to remove the daughterboard cover to replace the battery, but it does minimize the risk of damaging nearby components.
Insert the point of a spudger underneath the top right edge of the daughterboard cover.
The daughterboard cover may still be adhered to the loudspeaker.
Fold the daughterboard cover to the left, similar to opening a book.
Careful: Peel the black tape off the loudspeaker.
Disconnect the interconnect and antenna board cables using a spudger. Pry the connectors straight up from their socket.
Disconnect the fingerprint sensor and interconnect cables using a spudger.
Disconnect the display cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Remove the screw securing the daughterboard using a Phillips driver.
Insert the point of a spudger underneath the top edge of the daughterboard.
Do not attempt to remove the daughterboard yet, as this may damage the antenna connection.
Use blunt nose tweezers to fold the daughterboard towards the battery.
Insert tweezers near the black antenna cable, ensuring they fit snugly against the metal connector.
Remove the daughterboard.
Remove the red rubber gasket from the display cable using a pair of tweezers.
Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for 3 minutes to loosen adhesive.
Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen.
If the display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion or use strong tape instead.
Be prepared to apply more heat, depending on your phone's age, if the process is difficult.
Insert the opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen and slide it along the edge to cut through the adhesive.
Do not remove the pick until you have fully separated the screen — the adhesive may reseal if exposed.
Insert a second opening pick into the bottom right corner and slide it across to the bottom left corner of the screen.
Leave the pick in place to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.
Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left screen corner.
Reheat the adhesive for 1-2 minutes with your iOpener or heat gun.
Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.
Do not attempt to fully remove the display yet; display cables remain threaded through the midframe.
Locate the display cable's entry point on the midframe.
Remove the screen.
