This guide helps you replace the screen on your OnePlus 9 5G. You'll also need replacement adhesives for the rear glass and the screen to complete the repair successfully.
Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole.
Press firmly to avoid damaging the phone; if it doesn't budge, do not force it.
Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.
If the thin rubber gasket around the SIM tray is damaged or missing, replace it or the entire SIM tray to protect internal components from water and dust damage.
Completely power off your phone before proceeding.
Apply a suction handle near the bottom edge of the rear glass.
Do not apply excessive force that may cause further damage.
Insert an opening pick into the gap.
Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner and carefully slice the adhesive.
Insert second opening pick at the rear glass's bottom edge.
Check if the adhesive has cooled down, and reheat it with your iOpener if needed.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the rear glass.
Remove the rear glass.
During reassembly: Secure rear glass with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape. Apply strong, steady pressure for several minutes to form a good bond, using a stack of heavy books if necessary.
Use tweezers to gently remove the bottom right corner of the charging coil tape from the daughterboard cover.
Hold the tweezers firmly and gently lift the edge of the charging coil tape at the bottom left corner, starting from the loudspeaker.
Apply gentle pressure with an opening pick at the lower edge of the flash assembly.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver. The screws are 10 in total, each 3.8 mm long.
Puncture the white water ingress sticker with your Phillips screwdriver to access one of the screws.
Locate the plastic clips holding the motherboard cover.
Insert a thin, flat opening pick under the bottom right edge of the motherboard cover.
Slide the opening pick along the right edge of the motherboard cover.
Twist the opening pick to release plastic clips, then pry up the motherboard cover.
Remove the motherboard cover using a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
The charging coil is attached and will lift up at the same time.
Avoid damaging the motherboard — never press down in the middle of a press connector.
Remove the daughterboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.
Insert the point of a spudger under the top right corner of the daughterboard cover.
Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.
Use tweezers or your fingers to remove the daughterboard cover.
Slide one tweezer arm under the metal bracket.
Disconnect the interconnect cable from the daughterboard using a spudger.
Remove the interconnect cable with either a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
Locate the white antenna cable.
Remove the screw (2.8mm long) using a Phillips driver.
Locate the daughterboard's top right corner and insert the point of a spudger.
Pry upward to release the daughterboard.
Remove the daughterboard using a pair of blunt nose tweezers or your fingers.
Disconnect the display cable using a spudger. Pry the connector straight up from its socket in the bottom right corner.
Be cautious of overheating the device.
Apply a suction handle to the bottom edge of the screen.
If the display is badly cracked, covering it with clear packing tape may help the suction cup adhere.
As a last resort, superglue can be used to secure the suction cup to the broken screen.
Insert a pick between the iFlex and the screen.
Place the opening pick at the bottom right corner of the screen and slide it across to cut the adhesive.
Do not remove the opening pick until you are ready to proceed, as the adhesive may reseal if disturbed.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner.
When near the front facing camera, only insert 2.5 mm to avoid damage.
Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener or heat gun for 1-2 minutes if it becomes hard to cut.
Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.
Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner of the screen and slide it along the right edge.
Do not remove the display completely yet, as the display cable is still threaded through the midframe.
Flip the phone over.
Remove the screen.
