OnePlus 9 5G Rear Glass Replacement

Before starting this repair, ensure you have replacement adhesive for the rear glass. Note that water resistance may be compromised after the repair due to

dirty mating surfaces or improperly reapplied adhesive, potentially affecting your device's IP rating.

Step 1 | Loosen the rear glass

Step 1 image

Power off your phone completely before starting.

  • Apply an iOpener to the rear glass for at least three minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate – but be cautious not to overheat and damage display or internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the rear glass, as close to the bottom edge as possible.

If the rear glass is badly cracked, covering it with clear packing tape may aid suction handle adhesion.

  • Alternatively, use strong tape instead of the suction handle, or apply superglue to secure the suction handle.
  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the glass and the frame.
  • If a gap is difficult to achieve, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.

  • Leave the opening pick in place.
  • This prevents the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Insert a second opening pick

Reheat the adhesive with an iOpener if it becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the rear glass.
  • Slice along the left edge using this pick, then move it up.
  • Leave the pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Remove the rear glass.

  • If stuck, slide an opening pick around the entire perimeter until separation occurs.
  • Secure with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape during reassembly.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure to the phone for several minutes after installation.

Using a stack of heavy books can help form a good bond between the glass and the frame.
