OnePlus 9 5G Daughterboard Replacement

This repair may compromise water resistance; ensure clean mating surfaces and accurate adhesive reapplication for optimal results.

  • You'll need replacement adhesive for the rear glass to complete this repair.
  • The OnePlus 9 5G (T-Mobile versions only) will lose its IP rating after this repair.

Step 1 | Eject the SIM card tray

Thumbnail 2

Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.

  • When reinserting the SIM card, ensure it's properly aligned within the SIM tray.

A damaged or missing rubber gasket around the SIM tray can compromise water and dust protection, potentially harming internal components. Replace the gasket or the entire SIM tray as needed.

Step 3 | Loosen the rear glass

Step 3 image

Completely power off your phone before proceeding.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least three minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate – but be cautious not to overheat the phone, as this can cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Step 4 image

Apply a suction handle as close to the bottom edge of the rear glass as possible.

  • If the rear glass is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.
  • Use strong tape instead of a suction handle if needed.
  • As a last resort, superglue the suction handle to the broken rear glass.

Excessive heat can damage the adhesive; use it only as a last resort.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the glass and frame.
  • Apply more heat if necessary to further soften the adhesive.

Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 5 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner and gently slice through the adhesive.

Do not remove the opening pick until the repair is complete, as the adhesive may reseal otherwise.

Step 6 | Insert a second opening pick

Step 6 image

Insert opening pick at bottom edge of rear glass.

  • Slide opening pick to bottom left corner, slicing adhesive.
  • Leave opening picks in place to hold adhesive separated.

Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener if it's hard to cut.

  • Place an opening pick under the bottom left corner of the rear glass.
  • Slide the pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.

Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 8 | Slice the top edge adhesive

Position the opening pick at the top left corner of the rear glass.

  • Slide it along the top edge, slicing the adhesive as you go.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent re-adhesion in the top right corner.

Step 9 | Slice the right edge adhesive

Step 9 image

Remove the rear glass.

  • If stuck, slide an opening pick around the entire perimeter until the rear glass separates completely.
  • Secure with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape during reassembly.
  • Apply strong pressure to your phone for several minutes after installation to ensure proper bonding. Use a stack of heavy books as a pressing aid.

Step 11 | Peel off the tape

Locate the mild adhesive holding the flash assembly in place and the motherboard cover screw it covers.

  • Careful sliding an opening pick underneath the bottom edge of the flash assembly to pry it up, without attempting complete removal.

  • Do not attempt to remove the flash assembly all the way yet, as its cable is adhered to the motherboard cover.

Step 14 | Unfasten the motherboard cover
