OnePlus 8T Screen Replacement

Note: This guide assumes you're using a screen replacement kit that comes with an original frame, not one pre-installed in a new frame (a.k.a. chassis).

  • Discharge the battery below 25% to avoid potential fire or explosion risks.
  • Replace the cracked or broken screen. If the frame is deformed, replace it as well for proper mounting and pressure prevention.
  • Purchase replacement adhesive for reattaching components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Step 1 Remove the SIM tray

Switch off your phone.

  • Insert a SIM eject tool or a into the small hole on the SIM card tray located at the bottom right edge of the phone.
  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Heat the rear glass

Switch off your phone.

  • iOpener: Heat it for at least two minutes to loosen adhesive beneath rear glass. Repeat as needed.
  • Alternative methods: Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat phone - damage risk to AMOLED display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Create a gap

Apply a suction cup to the back of the phone, near the center of the bottom edge.

  • If the back cover is cracked, apply strong tape or superglue to secure the suction handle in place and allow it to cure before proceeding.
  • Pull on the suction cup to create a gap between the rear glass and the frame.
  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap and slide it down to the bottom left corner.

Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Position the opening pick near the bottom left corner of the screen.

  • Opening Pick: Slide it down along the bottom edge, moving towards the bottom right corner.
  • Stop at the bottom right corner and leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 5 | Slice the adhesive

Reheat the adhesive if it becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom right corner.
  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge to the top right corner.
  • Leave the opening picks in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 6 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a fourth opening pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide it along the top edge to the top left corner to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in its place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 7 | Slice the remaining adhesive

Insert a fifth opening pick into the top left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the left edge until it reaches the bottom left corner.
  • The pick will now be cutting through the remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Remove the rear glass

Remove the rear glass.

  • Install the back cover and ensure all components are properly aligned.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to help the adhesive form a good bond.

    • A stack of heavy books is recommended to provide even pressure.

Step 9 | Unscrew the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover by unscrewing the nine 3.8mm Phillips screws

Step 10 | Unclip the motherboard cover

Insert the opening pick into the bottom left corner of the motherboard cover.

  • Lift the motherboard cover using the opening pick and release the plastic clips.

Step 11 | Remove the motherboard cover

Disconnect and remove the motherboard cover.

Step 12 | Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery connector by gently prying it straight up with a spudger.

Step 13 | Unscrew the daughterboard cover

Remove the daughterboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are seven screws in total.
  • The screws are 3.8 mm long.

Step 14 | Remove the daughterboard cover

Insert opening pick into top edge of daughterboard cover.

  • Lift motherboard cover with opening pick to release plastic clips.
  • Remove daughterboard cover.

Step 15 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor connector using a spudger. Pry it straight up from its socket.

Step 16 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Disconnect the second fingerprint sensor connector using a spudger. Pry it straight up from its socket.

Step 17 | Disconnect the interconnect cable

Disconnect the interconnect cable using a spudger. Pry the connector straight up from its socket.

Step 18 | Disconnect the antenna cables

Disconnect the antenna cables from the daughterboard by gently prying them straight up.

Step 19 | Unscrew the daughterboard

Remove the daughterboard's Phillips screw, located at 3.1 mm.

Step 20 | Separate the daughterboard

  • Pry up the daughterboard using a opening pick.
  • Separate the daughterboard from the phone assembly with your fingers.

Step 21 | Disconnect the screen

Use the flat edge of a spudger to pry up the screen connector, then disconnect it from its socket at the .

Step 22 | Heat the screen

Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for 2 minutes.

  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be cautious not to overheat the phone as it may cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 23 | Create a gap

Apply a suction cup to the right edge of the screen.

If the phone's screen is cracked, the suction handle may not stick — use strong tape or superglue to secure it.

  • Pull the suction cup up with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap and slide it to the bottom right corner.
  • Leave the opening pick in its place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 24 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner.

  • Slide it along the right edge to the top right corner.
  • Leave both picks in their place to prevent reseal.

Step 25 | Slice the adhesive

Insert opening pick at bottom right corner.

  • Slide pick along bottom edge to bottom left corner, slicing adhesive.
  • Leave pick in place; do not remove yet.

Insert a fourth opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the left edge, slicing the adhesive as it reaches the top left corner.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 27 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a fifth opening pick under the top left corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge to the top right corner.
  • When slicing near the front facing camera, insert only the tip (5 mm) of the opening pick to avoid damaging the camera.

Do not remove the screen completely yet — the display cable is still threaded through the midframe.

Step 28 | Separate the screen

Thread the display flex cable through the gap in the frame.

Step 29 | Remove the screen

Remove the screen.
