OnePlus 8 Rear Glass Replacement

Replacing a rear glass panel may compromise water resistance on some OnePlus 8 models (T-Mobile IN2017, Verizon IN2019). Ensure replacement adhesive is used for a successful repair.

  • Purchase a new rear glass panel and matching adhesive.
  • Use the provided guide to complete the repair.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Do not risk heat damage to the display and internal battery.

  • Power off your phone and unplug any cables.
  • Apply a heated iOpener to the rear glass for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the center of the bottom edge of the rear glass.

If your display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape to help the suction cup adhere.

  • Alternatively, use very strong tape instead of a suction cup.
  • If necessary, superglue the suction cup to the broken screen.

Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear glass and frame.

Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Insert another opening pick under the bottom edge of the rear glass, into the gap you just made.

  • Slide this new opening pick to the bottom left corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place at the bottom left corner to stop resealing.

Step 5 | Slice the left edge adhesive

Reheat the iOpener and apply it for two minutes to soften the adhesive if slicing is difficult.

  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the rear glass.
  • Slide the opening pick up the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing.

  • Leave the opening pick in the top right corner to maintain access.
