OnePlus 8 Light Sensor Replacement

A malfunctioning light sensor can cause screen issues — risk of display problems if not addressed.

  • Modern smartphones use a light sensor that may need replacement due to age and decreased functionality.
  • This guide will walk you through the process of replacing your smartphone's light sensor.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Power off your phone and unplug all cables before proceeding.

  • Apply an iOpener to the rear glass for two minutes to loosen adhesives.
  • Alternatively, use a heat gun or hot plate with caution: excessive heat can damage display or battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the center of the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.

If your display is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better adhesion.

  • Alternatively, use very strong tape instead of a suction cup.
  • As last resort, superglue the suction cup to the broken screen.

Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear glass and frame.

Once a gap is created, insert an opening pick into it carefully.

Step 3 | Slice the bottom edge adhesive

Remove the rear glass.

  • If stuck, use an opening pick to carefully slide around perimeter until separated.

During reassembly: secure the rear glass with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.

Step 9 | Unfasten the motherboard cover
