OnePlus 7T Battery Replacement

Discharge battery to below 25% for safety before disassembly, reducing risk of thermal event.

  • Battery replacement guide is intended for worn-out or dead batteries.
  • If battery is swollen, take necessary precautions when handling.
  • You'll need replacement adhesive for reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Power off your phone before starting repairs.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to the rear glass for two minutes to loosen adhesive.
  • Alternative methods include using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the device — this can cause damage to the AMOLED display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the right edge of the rear glass.

  • If the back cover is cracked, try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and allow it to cure.
  • Pull on the suction handle to create a gap between the rear glass and the frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert an opening pick along the edge to the bottom right corner.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner.
  • Leave it in place to prevent adhesive resealing.
  • The suction handle may be removed or retained for better grip.

  • Insert a second opening pick into the gap.
  • Slide this pick along the edge to the top right corner.
  • If you encounter difficulties with slicing, reheat the adhesive using the iOpener.

  • Leave this pick in place at the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Avoid damaging or smearing the camera by inserting only the tip (~4-5 mm) of the opening pick when slicing near it.

  • Insert a third opening pick under the top right corner of the rear glass.
  • Slide the opening pick along the edge to the top left corner, cutting the adhesive in the process.
  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the edge to the bottom left corner, cutting the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Insert a fifth opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the edge to the bottom right corner.
  • Continue until the remaining adhesive is cut.

Step 8 | Remove the rear glass

Remove the rear glass.

  • Clean the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and apply new adhesive as needed.
  • Secure the new back cover using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to ensure a good bond. A stack of heavy books can be used for added pressure.

Step 9 | Unscrew the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Locate and remove eleven 3.6 mm screws.
  • Note: One of these screws is hidden beneath a white water damage sticker.

Step 10 | Remove motherboard cover

  • Insert the tip of an opening pick into the right bottom corner of the motherboard cover.
  • Slide the opening pick along the edge of the motherboard cover to release the plastic clips.
  • Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 11 | Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the battery connector using a spudger, prying it straight up from its socket.

Step 12 | Disconnect the flex cables

Disconnect the two flex cables using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 13 | Reposition the flex cables

Avoid sharply bending the flex cables, which may cause damage.

  • Bend both flex cables toward the bottom of the phone and out of the way of the battery.

Step 14 | Remove the adhesive tape

Use a spudger to gently pry off the adhesive tape along the left edge of the battery.

Step 15 | Remove the battery

Peel back the red pull tab.

  • Pull up on the red pull tab to lift the battery out of its recess and swing it up to an upright position.
  • If you're having trouble removing the battery, apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive underneath.

Step 16 | Remove the battery

Remove the battery.

Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery as this is a potential safety hazard.

  • Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape, applying it to the device's original adhesive locations.
  • Press the new battery firmly into place.

Temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard during reassembly to aid in alignment. Disconnect after seating.
