Discharge battery to below 25% for safety before disassembly, reducing risk of thermal event.
Power off your phone before starting repairs.
Apply a suction handle to the right edge of the rear glass.
Insert an opening pick along the edge to the bottom right corner.
If you encounter difficulties with slicing, reheat the adhesive using the iOpener.
Avoid damaging or smearing the camera by inserting only the tip (~4-5 mm) of the opening pick when slicing near it.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner.
Insert a fifth opening pick at the bottom left corner.
Remove the rear glass.
Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to ensure a good bond. A stack of heavy books can be used for added pressure.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.
Note: One of these screws is hidden beneath a white water damage sticker.
Disconnect the battery connector using a spudger, prying it straight up from its socket.
Disconnect the two flex cables using the flat end of a spudger.
Avoid sharply bending the flex cables, which may cause damage.
Use a spudger to gently pry off the adhesive tape along the left edge of the battery.
Peel back the red pull tab.
If you're having trouble removing the battery, apply an iOpener to loosen the adhesive underneath.
Remove the battery.
Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery as this is a potential safety hazard.
Temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard during reassembly to aid in alignment. Disconnect after seating.
