OnePlus 6T Rear Camera Replacement

This guide is for replacing the dual-camera setup (16+20 MP) on a OnePlus 6T device, which features an in-screen fingerprint scanner and was the best camera offered by the company until the release of the OnePlus 7.

  • Identify the correct replacement parts before starting the process to ensure compatibility with your OnePlus 6T model.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Ensure the phone is completely powered down.

  • Place the phone on a flat surface with the back cover facing upwards.

Insert a SIM card removal tool into the small hole in the upper-left side of the phone.

  • Pop open the SIM card tray.
  • Carefully remove the SIM card from its tray.

Apply heat to loosen the binding glue using a hairdryer held at least 8 inches away from the phone.

  • For two minutes, move the dryer in a circular motion around the phone's edges.
  • Alternatively, use an iOpener to loosen the glue.

Insert a Jimmy under one of the heated corners.

  • Lift the phone slightly, then insert a plastic card underneath the lip on the back cover.
  • Gently glide the card under the lifted casing.

There may be some tension as the adhesive is released; this is normal.

Remove the back cover from the phone.

  • Use a lint-free cloth and high concentration (90% or greater) isopropyl alcohol to remove all residue.
  • Clean both the back cover and frame thoroughly.

Step 5 | Front Camera

  • Remove the three 3mm Phillips #00 screws securing the metal battery cover.
  • Use tweezers to gently pry off the battery cover and set it aside.

Step 6

Remove all eight 3mm Phillips #00 screws.

  • The screws hold the midframe in place.
  • The screws are located on the phone's frame.

Step 7

Use a spudger to carefully pry off the midframe and set it aside.

Use a spudger to release the light brown tab in the center of the phone.

  • Lift up on the front camera assembly to disconnect it from the phone.
  • Remove the front camera assembly from the phone.

Step 9 | Motherboard

Remove the 3mm Phillips #00 screw located to the right of the top rear camera.

Step 10

  • Disconnect the charging port flex connector, main flex connector, and screen flex connector using a spudger located at the bottom of the camera.

Step 11

Disconnect the signal cables on the right side of the motherboard using a spudger.

Handle the slider with care — extremely delicate.

  • Use a spudger to disconnect the slider from the top of the phone.
  • Pull the motherboard gently out from the left side and remove it from the phone.
  • Do not attempt to remove the slider from the sides, as this may cause damage.

Step 13 | Rear Camera

  • Disconnect the two metal rear camera tabs on the left side using a spudger.
  • Remove the camera module from its slot on the motherboard.
