OnePlus 6 Speaker Replacement

Potential for internal damage requires caution when replacing the speaker in a OnePlus 6 smartphone.

  • Replace the speaker if water damage or wear from regular use has caused sound issues.
  • The internal speaker is responsible for external audio output when no other sources are connected.
  • Affected devices may not produce sound or play it distortedly, necessitating replacement.

Step 1 | Back Panel

Be careful not to overheat or melt the plastic; heat guns can get out of hand quickly!

  • Turn on the heat gun and set it to low heat.
  • Gently heat the curved edges on the back of the phone.
  • Wedge the opening picks between the front and back panel, then slide them around the perimeter to break the adhesive securing the back cover.
  • Repeat until the back panel is fully released.

Careful handling required: avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable.

  • Lift the back panel upwards.

Use tweezers to carefully release the red tab.

  • Gently lift the cable away from its socket.
  • Remove the back panel completely from the device.

Step 4 | Battery

Remove the battery by gripping the green tab and pulling it straight up.

Step 5 | Speaker

Careful lifting is required to avoid damaging components.

  • Remove the eight screws using a Phillips #000 screwdriver.
  • Lift the speaker up and out of the chassis carefully.
  • If replacing the screen, proceed to Step 9.

Step 6

Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to install the 8 screws.

  • Orient the new speaker unit correctly.
  • Install the screws in their original positions.

Step 7

Replace the battery in the phone and reconnect the charging cable to its original socket.

  • Ensure a secure fit by pressing the connector firmly into place.
  • Reattach the red cover to the charging port, securing it over the connection.

Step 8

Use a adhesive remover to strip the existing adhesive.

  • Apply new adhesive around the entire perimeter of the back cover.
  • Replace the back cover and press firmly for about a minute to allow the adhesive to set.
