OnePlus 6 Rear Camera Replacement

A broken or disconnected camera will prevent taking pictures and videos.

  • Inspect the camera lenses for cracks; a distorted image may indicate hardware damage.
  • Check the troubleshooting page to attempt a fix before replacing the camera.

Do not proceed without powering off the phone and disconnecting it from external sources.

  • Backup your phone's data to prevent loss of photos and videos.
  • Rear glass panel is fragile; handle with care during removal.

Step 1 | Back Panel

Heat guns can overheat or melt plastic, so handle with care.

  • Turn on the heat gun to low heat and gently heat the curved edges on the back of the phone.
  • Use opening picks to pry apart the front and back panel around the perimeter.
    • Wedge picks between the panels and slide them along the edge to break the adhesive securing the back cover.
    • Repeat until the back panel is fully released.

Lift the back panel carefully.

  • Avoid damaging the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable.

Step 3

Disconnect the cable using a pair of tweezers.

  • Remove the back panel completely.

Step 4 | Battery

Grasp the green release tab attached to the battery and gently lift it straight up.

Step 5 | Fingerprint sensor

Locate the plastic midframe situated above the battery space.

  • Employ a Phillips #00 screwdriver to extract the ten 3 mm screws from the midframe.
  • Do not remove the screw next to the round white sticker marked with the green circle at the bottom left; this will damage your midframe board.

  • Lift the bottom of the mid frame and carefully remove it from the device.

Step 6 | Motherboard

Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove 10 screws securing the motherboard.

Disconnect the small metal tabs near the battery compartment.

  • Use your fingernail to carefully work under the edge of the motherboard.
  • Pry the motherboard up from the phone, taking care that it lifts smoothly with the cameras attached.

Step 8 | Rear Camera

Disconnect the cameras by lifting up on their small tabs.

  • Lift the tab connecting each camera to the motherboard.
  • Push on the lens side of the cameras and carefully remove them from the motherboard.
