OnePlus 6 Motherboard Replacement

Malfunctioning OnePlus 6? Check troubleshooting page first.

  • Charge fully; try booting up if screen remains blank or no power is restored.
  • Inspect motherboard connectors for looseness, and battery health.

Remove back panel carefully (glass) to avoid damage.

  • Backup phone data before proceeding.
  • Shut down and disconnect all external sources.

Step 1 | Back Panel

Heat guns can be unpredictable, so use low heat and work carefully.

  • Turn on the heat gun to a low setting.
  • Gently warm the curved edges on the back of the phone with the heat gun.
  • Insert an opening pick between the front and back panel and gently pry along the edges.
  • Repeat until the adhesive is fully broken and the back panel is released.

Be cautious when lifting the back panel, as it may be near the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable.

Lift the back panel upwards gently.

  • Disconnect the cable by gently pulling up on the red tab using a pair of tweezers.

  • Make sure to completely remove the back panel from the device.

Step 4 | Battery

Grasp the green tab attached to the battery and pull the battery straight up and away.

Step 5 | Fingerprint sensor

Be aware that the 10th screw is underneath a round white sticker marked with a green circle at the bottom left.

  • Remove ten 3 mm screws using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
  • Avoid removing the screw next to it marked with an orange circle, as this can damage the midframe board.
  • Lift the bottom of the midframe directly up and remove it from the device.

Step 6 | Motherboard

Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the ten screws securing the motherboard.

Careful not to damage the motherboard or nearby components.

  • Disconnect the small metal tabs holding down the motherboard near the battery compartment.
  • Using a fingernail, gently pry the edge of the motherboard up from the phone.

The cameras should lift with the motherboard as you remove it.
