OnePlus 5T Battery Replacement

For your safety, discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling.

  • Use this guide to replace a worn-out or dead OnePlus 5T battery.
  • If the battery is swollen, take appropriate precautions.
  • Replacement adhesive is required for reattaching components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Switch off your phone.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Be prepared for potentially strong clamp resistance when separating the back cover.

  • Remove the two Torx T2 screws, each 2.5 mm in length.
  • The OnePlus 5T's backcover uses minimal adhesive, but clamps are very secure and may require some force to open.

  • Insert an opening tool between the display and backcover at the bottom end.
  • Create a gap using the opening tool.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

  • Position the first opening pick at the top right corner of the phone.
  • Insert a second opening pick and position it at the top left corner of the phone.

Insert an opening pick into the bottom left corner of the device.

  • Slide it upwards along the left edge, applying gentle pressure, until the plastic clamps release.

Locate the bottom right corner of the phone.

  • Insert an opening pick into the corner.
  • Gently work the pick along the right edge to release the plastic clamps.

Do not completely remove the backcover yet.

  • The fingerprint sensor cable, charging port flex cable, and headphone jack flex cable are still connected to the motherboard.

Flip your phone over and carefully lift the bottom of the backcover away from the phone assembly.

  • Fold the backcover to the left and hold it at an 80° angle.

Disconnect the fingerprint flex cable using a spudger.

Twist backcover 180° and place it down, ensuring bottom edge aligns with battery's top edge.

Remove the small metal shield using a pair of tweezers.

Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the charging port and headphone jack flex cable.

Remove the back cover.

Step 13 | Battery Disconnect

Disconnect the battery flex cable with a spudger.

Step 14 | Upper Main Flex Connector Disconnect

Use tweezers to release the small metal shield covering main and interconnect flex cable connectors.

  • The shield is held by mild adhesive; if stuck, apply a heated iOpener to loosen it.

Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the main flex cable.

Step 16 | Battery

Move the main flex cable aside for improved access.

Remove the green adhesive strip from the battery.

Release the battery from its recess by pulling up on the green adhesive strip.

May require force; if stuck, use a heated iOpener on the display's center to loosen adhesive.

  • Lift the battery into an upright position.
  • Peel the battery away from remaining adhesive.

Remove the battery completely.

  • During re-assembly, briefly reconnect battery to motherboard for correct alignment.
  • Disconnect battery once seated.

Remove the battery's adhesive sticker from the midframe.

A fresh sticker is highly recommended for new battery installations.
