OnePlus 5 Vibration Motor Replacement

Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the small hole below the SIM card tray.

• Press firmly to eject the tray.
• During reassembly, ensure proper orientation of the SIM tray before inserting it.

• Remove the two 2.6 mm T2 screws located near the USB-C port on the bottom of the phone.

Risk of damaging display panel if procedure not followed.

• Read through these steps before attempting to remove rear case.

Do not pry at display panel seam — part of display assembly.

Pry only at frame seam: where plastic frame meets back cover.

• Awareness of twelve clips holding frame to rear case is essential.

Do not accidentally power on the phone while working.

• Place a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display to create tension.
• Pull the suction cup firmly and steadily, applying strong force.

Apply pressure with an opening tool to wedge it between the frame seam and lip.

Using an unmarred opening tool may help due to tight tolerances requiring substantial force.

Slide the opening tool along the bottom edge of the phone.

• Keep the tool's edge within the seam as you approach the left corner.
• Guide the opening tool around the left corner, maintaining control throughout.

Use a lever with an opening tool attachment to pry the first clip loose from its position on the frame.

Continue sliding the opening tool along the long edge, releasing the clips as you go.

The last clip in the top-left corner near the front-facing camera is recessed and may be difficult to release — take your time and use the flat end of a spudger or an opening pick for assistance.

Wiggle the frame gently to release top and right edge clips.

Do not remove the back cover.

• Test your phone's functionality before proceeding with reassembly.
• Back cover removal not necessary at this point.

To reinstall:

1. Align top edge of frame to back cover and ensure top clips slip into place.
2. Squeeze along long edges of phone to snap remaining clips into place.

Do not stress the flex cable, as damage can occur.

• Flip the phone over with the display face-down.
• Rest the back cover on top of the exposed frame.

Remove the 2.6 mm Phillips screw securing the cable bracket.

• Lift up and remove the cable bracket.
• To reinstall, position one end of the bracket in place and gently bend it to spring the other end into place.

Do not press down on the center of the connector — risk of pin bending and permanent damage.

• Use a spudger to pry up the back cover flex cable from its socket.
• To reattach, align the connector and press down one side until it clicks into place; repeat for the other side.

Remove the back cover.

Use the pointed end of a spudger to pry up and release the battery connector from its socket.

Remove the six 2.6 mm Phillips screws holding the loudspeaker in place.

Insert the flat end of a spudger into the corner of the loudspeaker assembly and gently pry to loosen.

• Pry in only one spot at a time to avoid damaging surrounding components.
• Continue prying until the loudspeaker is freed from its recess.

Remove the loudspeaker.

• For reinstallation, align the loudspeaker's bottom edge with the frame.
• Press the assembly into place.

Ensure that the display cable connector under the loudspeaker assembly remains securely fastened during reinstallation.

Locate the interconnect flex cable socket.

• Pry up the interconnect flex cable using the point of a spudger.
• If replacing the battery, bend the interconnect flex cable away from the phone and secure it with a rubber band or tape.

Insert the point of the spudger into the socket near the bottom edge of the motherboard.

• Pry gently to release the display interconnect cable.
• Lift and disconnect the cable from its socket.

• Insert the point of a spudger under the antenna interconnect cable, located above the vibration motor.
• Pry up to disconnect the cable from its socket.

• Be careful not to damage the cable or its connector.

• Route the cable away from the motherboard grounding clip and move it out of your working area.

Locate the small square antenna connector near the top edge on the motherboard.

• Pry carefully using a spudger to disconnect the antenna connector.
• The socket will release when the connector is lifted up.

Locate and remove all seven 2.6 mm Phillips screws holding down the motherboard.

• Some screws are concealed under stickers — lift the stickers for access.

Hold the motherboard by the edges and carefully lift it out.

• Lift the top edge of the motherboard using your fingers.
• Remove the motherboard from its recess.

Insert the pointed tip of an opening pick into the gap between the vibration motor and the frame.

• Push downward on the opening pick to loosen the vibration motor in its recess.
• Once the motor is slightly loose, insert the flat end of a spudger between the motor and the frame to further dislodge it.

Insert the opening pick under the vibration motor's flex pad, prying it loose from the frame.

• Remove the vibration motor.
