OnePlus 5 Screen and Digitizer Assembly Replacement

Discharge your battery to below 25% before disassembly to prevent thermal events.

  • This guide is for screens pre-mounted on frames and requires significant disassembly, including battery replacement.
  • Transfer small parts from the old screen to the new assembly during installation.

Take precautions if your battery is swollen.

  • You don't need to remove the dual rear-facing camera module for this procedure.
  • Be careful not to damage the fingerprint scanner cable.
  • Battery replacement is necessary as part of the disassembly process.

Step 1 | SIM Card Tray

Step 1 image

Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the small hole below the SIM card tray, located near the rear cameras on the edge of the phone.

Press firmly to eject the tray, taking care not to apply too much force and damage internal components.

  • Properly orient the SIM tray during reassembly to ensure proper alignment.

Step 2 | Back Cover

Step 2 image

Remove the two 2.6 mm T2 screws situated on either side of the USB-C port on the bottom of the device.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Improperly opening the display panel can cause damage.

  • Read and understand the procedure before attempting to open the phone.
  • Identify two seams between the body and screen:
    • Display panel seam: Part of the display assembly; do not pry here.
    • Frame seam: Where frame meets back cover; pry only here.
  • Beware of twelve clips holding the frame to the rear case as you proceed.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Accidental power-on can cause damage — turn off phone if necessary.

  • Locate the suction cup near the display's bottom edge.
  • Pull on the suction cup with steady force until it catches.
  • Press an opening tool into the frame seam near the suction cup, wedging the edge between frame and back cover.

Tight tolerances require substantial force — use a new opening tool for best results.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Continue sliding the opening tool along the long edge, releasing clips as you go.

  • If necessary, use the flat end of a spudger or an opening pick to help release the last clip in the top-left corner near the front-facing camera.

Step 8

Step 8 image

Wiggle the frame gently, releasing top and right edge clips.

Do not remove the back cover yet.

  • Pause here to test your phone's functionality during reassembly.

Reattach the back cover as follows:

  • Align top edge of frame with back cover, ensuring clips slip into place.
  • Squeeze along long edges of phone to snap remaining clips into place.

Step 9
