Discharge your battery to below 25% before disassembly to prevent thermal events.
Take precautions if your battery is swollen.
Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the small hole below the SIM card tray, located near the rear cameras on the edge of the phone.
Press firmly to eject the tray, taking care not to apply too much force and damage internal components.
Remove the two 2.6 mm T2 screws situated on either side of the USB-C port on the bottom of the device.
Improperly opening the display panel can cause damage.
Accidental power-on can cause damage — turn off phone if necessary.
Tight tolerances require substantial force — use a new opening tool for best results.
Slide the opening tool along the phone's bottom edge.
Use an opening tool to lever the first clip free from the frame.
Continue sliding the opening tool along the long edge, releasing clips as you go.
Wiggle the frame gently, releasing top and right edge clips.
Do not remove the back cover yet.
Reattach the back cover as follows:
Avoid stressing the flex cable.
Careful alignment is crucial when re-attaching a connector to avoid pin bending.
Remove the back cover.
Use the pointed tip of a spudger to gently pry up and disconnect the battery connector from its socket.
Remove the six 2.6 mm Phillips screws securing the loudspeaker.
Use a spudger to gently pry the loudspeaker loose from its recess.
Remove the loudspeaker.
Insert the pointed end of a spudger into the socket to disconnect the interconnect flex cable.
Peel the green pull tab away from the battery.
If stuck, apply over 90% isopropyl alcohol along the battery seam and try again.
Remove the battery.
Do not reuse the battery after removal due to potential safety hazard if bent or stressed.
Insert the point of a spudger into the socket and carefully pry up the fingerprint scanner connector.
Insert the spudger under the antenna interconnect cable and gently pry up.
Insert flat end of spudger under microphone board, twisting slightly to release adhesive.
Stop if the daughterboard bends significantly; try a different prying angle instead.
Insert the flat end of a spudger under the daughterboard from the bottom.
Slide the flat end of a spudger underneath the tape covering the fingerprint scanner.
Be extremely careful when handling the flex cable, as it's delicate and prone to breaking.
Insert the spudger into marked areas on either side of flex cable.
Do not apply excessive force if scanner does not budge initially. Verify that spudger's point is against backside of scanner, as indicated in the first image, rather than metal plate below it.
Loosen the fingerprint scanner from its recess.
When installing on a replacement frame, peel off the blue adhesive liner before attaching the fingerprint scanner.
Insert the point of the spudger into the socket, located near the bottom edge of the motherboard.
Insert the spudger point under the antenna interconnect cable.
Position the spudger near the motherboard, at the top edge.
Locate and remove all seven 2.6 mm Phillips screws securing the motherboard.
Be aware that some screws may be concealed under stickers, which must also be removed for full access.
Use your fingers to lift up the top edge of the motherboard.
Insert the spudger's tip into the top right corner of the earpiece module and gently pry upward to loosen the module from its housing.
Remove the earpiece module.
Insert the opening pick point into the gap between the vibration motor and frame.
Insert the point of an opening pick under the vibration motor's flex pad and carefully pry it loose from the frame.
Handle the black tape pieces carefully to avoid tearing, as they can be reused later.
If you tear the tape, replace it with new electrical tape.
Use the edge of an opening tool to gently pry the volume button board away from the frame.
Insert the tweezer tips near the top right edge of the frame under the volume button board's contact pad.
Ensure the new replacement frame has exposed adhesive before installing the volume button board.
Repeat steps 3 and 4.
Remove the plastic battery liner from the frame.
Risk of damage to the display connector.
Risk of damage to the display or surrounding components if not done carefully.
Grasp the loosened end of the display interconnect cable with your fingers and pull upwards.
If transferring to a new frame, peel off blue adhesive liners before installing the cable.
Locate the back cover antenna connector on the top edge of the frame.
Transfer all removed parts from old assembly to new one.
