The following steps are necessary to remove and replace the motherboard in a OnePlus 5:
Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or a straightened
Firmly press to eject the tray.
Improperly opening the display panel can result in damage.
Accidental power-on may cause damage; turn off phone if powered on during disassembly.
Tight tolerances require strong steady force; use new opening tool with unmarred edge for assistance.
Slide the opening tool along the bottom edge of the phone.
Use an opening tool to pry the first clip loose from the frame.
Continue sliding the opening tool along the long edge, releasing the clips as you go.
The top-left corner clip near the front-facing camera may be recessed; use the flat end of a spudger or opening pick to assist with release.
Wiggle the frame gently to release top and right edge clips.
Pause here to test phone functionality before closing the back cover.
Careful not to stress the flex cable.
Remove the 2.6 mm Phillips screw securing the cable bracket above the battery.
Use a spudger to pry up the back cover flex cable from its socket.
Do not press down in the middle of the connector when re-attaching.
Remove the back cover.
Use a pointed tip on a spudger to gently pry up and release the battery connector from its socket.
Insert the point of a spudger between the camera connector and its socket, then gently pry up and release the connection.
Position the spudger at the top left corner of the camera module.
Remove the rear-facing camera module.
Remove the six 2.6 mm Phillips screws holding the loudspeaker in place.
Insert the flat end of a spudger into the corner of the loudspeaker assembly.
Pry gently to loosen the loudspeaker from its recess.
Ensure that the display cable connector under the loudspeaker is still securely fastened during reinstallation.
Disengage the display interconnect cable using a pointed tool like a spudger.
Insert the spudger tip under the antenna connector near the top edge of the motherboard.
Pry gently but firmly to avoid damage to the connector or surrounding components.
Remove all Phillips screws of size 2.6mm that hold the motherboard in place.
