OnePlus 5 Charging Port/Headphone Jack Replacement

The lower port assembly contains both the charging port and headphone jack ports, requiring simultaneous replacement.

  • The most challenging aspect is releasing the frame clips on the back cover.

Step 1 | SIM Card Tray

  • Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the small hole below the SIM card tray.
  • Press firmly to eject the tray.

During reassembly, ensure proper orientation of the SIM tray to avoid damage.

Step 2 | Back Cover

Remove the 2 x 2.6mm T2 screws near the USB-C port on the bottom of the phone.

Improperly following these opening instructions can result in display panel damage.

  • Read through the entire procedure before attempting to open the phone.

Do not pry at the display panel seam, as this will separate and damage the display panel.

Only pry at the frame seam where the plastic frame meets the back cover.

  • Be aware of the twelve clips holding the frame against the rear case as you open the phone.

Accidental power-up of the phone can cause damage; turn it off if powered on during disassembly.

  • Position a suction cup near the display's bottom edge.
  • Pull the suction cup with steady strong force.

Applying substantial force may be necessary due to tight tolerances; use an opening tool with an unmarred edge for better results.

  • Press the edge of an opening tool into the frame seam near the suction cup until it wedges between the plastic frame and back cover's lip.

Insert the opening tool's edge into the seam.

  • Slide the tool along the bottom edge of the phone, maintaining a gentle touch.
  • Guide the tool around the left corner, keeping its edge within the seam.

Use the opening tool to lever the first clip free from the frame.

Take extra care with the last clip, as it's recessed and may require patience.

  • Slide the opening tool along the long edge until all clips are released.
  • Use a flat spudger or opening pick to release the last clip in the top-left corner near the front-facing camera, if necessary.

Release the top and right edge clips by gently wiggling the frame.

  • The frame is still connected to the back cover via a flex cable, do not remove it yet.
  • Test your phone's functionality before reassembling the back cover.

Before securing the back cover, ensure that all components are working as expected.

  • To reinstall the back cover, align the top edge of the frame to the back cover and engage the top clips.
  • Squeeze along the long edges of the phone to snap the remaining clips into place.

Flip the phone over with the display facing down.

  • Release the back cover from the clips.
  • Rest the back cover on top of the exposed .
  • Be careful not to stress the flex cable connecting the back cover and frame.

  • Remove the 2.6 mm Phillips screw securing the cable bracket above the battery.
  • Lift up and remove the cable bracket.
  • Avoid damaging the bracket during removal or installation.

  • To reinstall: position one end, bend slightly to spring the other end into place.

Risk of permanent damage if connector is misaligned.

  • Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the back cover flex cable from its socket.
  • To reattach:
    • Carefully align the connector with one side in place, then press down until it clicks.
    • Repeat on the other side.

Remove the back cover.

Step 13 | Charging Port/Headphone Jack

Remove the 4 2.6 mm Phillips screws securing the port assembly.

Insert an opening pick under the port assembly's flex cable and gently pry it loose from the back cover.

Step 15

Remove the charging port/headphone jack.
