OnePlus 5 Back Cover Replacement

Release the frame clips before removing the back cover.

  • Locate and release each frame clip using a gentle prying motion.
  • Once all clips are free, carefully lift off the back cover.

Step 1 | SIM Card Tray

Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the small hole below the SIM tray (near rear cameras).

  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
    • Properly orient the SIM tray when reassembling.

Step 2 | Back Cover

  • Remove 2.6mm T2 screws located on the bottom edge near the USB-C port.

Improper prying can damage display panel.

Pry rear case from plastic frame using the following steps:

  • Read through these steps before attempting.
  • Rear Case Prying Tool should be used for this procedure.
  • Identify seams on rear case and plastic frame:
    • Display Panel Seam: Do not pry here. Part of display assembly.
    • Frame Seam: Only pry at this seam.

Be aware of the 12 clips holding frame to rear case during prying.

  • Avoid powering on the phone during disassembly — risk of damage.
  • If it powers on accidentally, turn off the phone immediately.

Position a suction cup near the display's bottom edge.

  • Pull on the suction cup with strong, steady force.
  • Insert an opening tool into the frame seam next to the suction cup, pressing until it wedges between the plastic frame and back cover lip.

Tight tolerances require substantial force; use a new, unmarred opening tool for this step.

Locate the seam on your phone's bottom edge and insert an opening tool at a shallow angle.

  • Gently slide the tool along the bottom edge of your phone while maintaining its position within the seam.
  • Maintain control as you guide the tool around the left corner, ensuring it remains in contact with the seam.

Remove the first frame clip with the opening tool.

Continue sliding the Opening Tool along the long edge, releasing clips.

  • The last clip (top-left corner near front-facing camera) is recessed: use a flat spudger or opening pick with caution to assist release.

Wiggle the frame to release the top and right clips.

  • The flex cable remains connected during this step.
  • No need to remove the back cover yet.

Reassembly Check:

  • Pause here and test the phone's functionality before proceeding.

To reinstall the back cover, align the top edge and ensure the clips snap into place.

  • Squeeze the long edges of the phone to secure the remaining clips in place.

Beware of the flex cable - handle with care.

  • Release clips, then flip phone over with display facing down.
  • Swing back cover onto exposed frame.

Step 10

You will need a Phillips #1 Screwdriver.

  • Remove the 2.6 mm screw holding the cable bracket above the battery.
  • Lift up and completely remove the cable bracket.
    • To reinstall:
    • Position one end of the bracket in place.
    • Bend the bracket slightly to spring the other end into position.

Misaligned connector may cause bent pins and permanent damage.

  • Spudger pry up back cover flex cable from socket.
  • To re-attach:
    • Align one side, press down until it clicks.
    • Repeat on the other side, not in the middle.

Remove Back Cover.
