OnePlus 3 Front-Facing Camera Replacement

This repair requires removing the motherboard to access the selfie camera module. The most difficult step is releasing the frame clips of the back cover. Note that some guides may show the battery removed, but it is not necessary for this procedure.

Step 1 | SIM Card Tray

Risk of damaging the SIM card slot — ensure tool insertion alignment.

  • Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paperclip into the hole between the SIM card slot and power button.
  • Press firmly to eject the SIM card tray.
  • During reinstallation, align the SIM card tray properly — it fits in only one direction.

Step 2 | Back Cover

Improper opening procedure may result in display panel damage.

  • Read through these steps before attempting to open the phone.

Two seams exist between screen and body: do not pry at the Display Panel Seam.

  • Identify the recessed Frame Seam where back cover meets plastic frame.
  • Pry only at this seam, avoiding damage to fourteen clips holding frame against rear case.

Step 4

Avoid powering on the phone during disassembly.

  • Place a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display.
  • Pull the suction cup with strong steady force.

Press an opening tool into the frame seam near the suction cup until it wedges between the plastic frame and the back cover's lip.

  • Apply substantial force due to tight tolerances.
  • Use a new opening tool with an unmarred edge for optimal results.

Do not use metal tools, as they will likely crack the screen.

Step 5

Release top and right edge clips by gently wiggling the frame.

  • Lift the screen up and remove it completely.

Pause here to test your phone's functionality before proceeding with reassembly.

  • To reinstall the back cover, align top edge of the frame with back cover.
  • Ensure top clips snap into place and then squeeze along long edges to secure remaining clips.

Step 8 | OnePlus 3 Battery Disconnect

Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the battery connector from its socket above the top right corner of the battery pack.

  • Bend the connector away from the socket to prevent accidental contact.
  • To reattach, align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side. Pressing down in the middle is not recommended.

Misaligned connectors can bend pins, causing permanent damage.
