Nothing Phone (1) Daughterboard Replacement

Replacing the daughterboard may cause loss of IP rating and void your warranty.

  • Follow this guide to replace the daughterboard.
  • Use replacement adhesive for rear glass reattachment.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Apply a iOpener to the rear glass for at least 2 minutes to loosen adhesive.

  • Alternative methods: Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate.
  • Be careful not to overheat the phone, as it may cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Secure a suction handle to the rear glass's bottom edge, as close as possible.

If the glass is cracked, the suction handle may not stick; try lifting it with strong tape or apply superglue and let it cure before proceeding.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.
  • If trouble persists, reapply heat to soften the adhesive further.

Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge of your phone.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom left corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Step 4 image

When slicing near the glyph, use only the tip (~2-3 mm) of an opening pick.

  • If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has cooled down; apply your iOpener for 1-2 minutes to reheat it.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5

  • Continue until rear glass is separated from frame, or use another opening pick for stubborn areas.

Step 7 | Remove the rear glass

Step 7 image

Remove the rear glass.

  • Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol (>90%), then apply new adhesive as needed.
  • Use a dust blower to clean the rear glass if necessary, due to its transparent nature.
  • Attach the new back cover with either pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure for several minutes after installation to ensure a proper bond.

Note: A stack of heavy books can be used to apply the necessary pressure.

Step 8 | Remove the plastic cover

Step 8 image
