Nothing Phone (1) Charging Port Replacement

Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembly to prevent fire risk if damaged.

  • Remove the battery from your Nothing Phone (1).
  • If swollen, take necessary precautions.
  • Replace the charging port after removing the battery.
  • Reattach rear glass using replacement adhesive.
  • Your phone will function normally but may lose its IP rating.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Prepare an iOpener by applying it to the rear glass for at least two minutes.

Be cautious when using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, as they can cause heat damage to the display and internal battery if overheated.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.

If the rear glass is cracked, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction handle and allow it to cure before proceeding.

  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.
  • If needed, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further. Follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge of your phone.

  • Slice the adhesive by sliding the opening pick to the bottom left corner.
  • Leave the opening picks in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Insert only the tip (~2-3 mm) of an opening pick near the glyph to avoid damaging LEDs.

  • If the adhesive becomes hard, use your iOpener for 1-2 minutes to reheat it.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Insert opening pick under top left corner.

  • Slide opening pick along top edge to cut adhesive.
  • Leave opening pick in top right corner for resealing prevention.

Insert a fifth opening pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge of the rear glass to slice the remaining adhesive.
  • If the rear glass is still stuck, use an opening pick to separate any remaining adhesive around the edges.

Step 7 | Remove the rear glass

Remove the rear glass.

  • Clean areas where new adhesive is needed with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).
  • Apply new adhesive to cleaned areas.
  • Dust blower recommended for cleaning due to transparent rear glass.
  • Secure new back cover with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure to phone for several minutes after installation.

Step 8 | Remove the plastic cover

Apply heat with an iOpener for 1-2 minutes to loosen adhesive on the earpiece speaker cover.

  • Insert an opening pick at the top edge of your phone, under the grey plastic cover.
  • Pry up the plastic cover using the opening pick.
  • Remove the plastic cover.

Step 9 | Unfasten the earpiece speaker screws

Use a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the two 4.2 mm-long screws securing the earpiece speaker.

  • Place the flat end of a spudger under the bottom edge of the earpiece speaker.
  • Pry up the earpiece speaker using the spudger.
  • Remove the earpiece speaker with tweezers or your fingers.

Step 11 | Disconnect the flash assembly LED glyph cables

  • Disconnect the flash assembly cable using a spudger by prying the connector straight up.
  • Next, disconnect the LED glyph cable in the same manner.

Step 12 | Remove the recording indicator light cover

Locate the recording indicator light cover at the top right corner of the screen.

  • opening pick underneath the cover and gently pry it up.
  • tweezers or fingers to remove the cover completely.

Step 13 | Remove the bottom LED glyph assembly

Be extremely cautious when handling the bottom LED assembly as a fragile cable runs beneath its entire surface and can be easily damaged.

  • The adhesive holding it in place is brittle; use care when separating the components.
  • Insert an opening pick under the right, left, and bottom edges of the bottom LED assembly to gently pry it away from the daughterboard cover.
  • Do not insert the opening pick further than depicted in the reference images to avoid damaging the LED cable.

Step 14 | Fold over the bottom LED assembly

Remove any remaining adhesive holding the bottom LED assembly in place.

  • Fold the bottom LED assembly over with a pair of blunt nosed tweezers, avoiding cable strain or damage.

Step 15 | Open the connector bracket

Be prepared to apply some force to release the LED connector bracket.

  • Insert one arm of a pair of tweezers into the gap at the right side of the connector bracket.
  • Push the tweezers toward the left edge of the phone to release the closure flap of the connector bracket.
  • If struggling, pull the black rubber piece to the left for more clearance.

Lift the connector bracket with your tweezers to access the LED connector.

Step 16 | Disconnect the LED cable

Disconnect the LED cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.

Remove the bottom LED assembly with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.

Step 18 | Unfasten the daughterboard cover screws

  • Remove the daughterboard cover using a Torx T5 screwdriver.
  • Be aware that one of the screws may be hidden under a white sticker.

  • The is secured by five screws, each measuring 4.2 mm in length.

Grasp the grey plastic shield with a pair of tweezers.

  • Gently pry the shield away from the daughterboard cover, using gentle pressure to overcome mild adhesive.
  • Remove the grey plastic shield once it is separated.

Avoid applying excessive force or pressing the prying tool too deeply, as this may damage the fingerprint cable beneath.

  • Pry up the daughterboard cover with a gentle rocking motion.

Insert the spudger's pointed end underneath the top edge of the daughterboard cover, just above the black rubber guard securing the LED connector bracket.

  • Pry up with the spudger to release the daughterboard cover from its clips.

Insert an opening pick under the interconnect cable to loosen its adhesive bond.

  • Work the pick carefully between the interconnect cable and the charging coil assembly.
  • Also pry it free from the loudspeaker.

Avoid sharp bends when folding the interconnect cable.

  • Use tweezers to gently fold the cable to the left, as if opening a book.

Step 28 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Use a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the four maintenance screws, each approximately 4.2 mm in length.

Step 29 | Separate the wireless charging coil adhesive

Mild adhesive may cause damage if not handled carefully.

  • Insert a spudger at the bottom right edge of the charging coil assembly.
  • Slide the spudger along the right edge to break the adhesive bond.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to separate the adhesive.

Do not strain cables or components when folding the charging coil assembly.

  • Fold the charging coil carefully to the top edge of the phone.
  • This will provide access to the motherboard cover screws.

Step 32 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Remove the motherboard cover screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • The screws are 4.2 mm long and three in total.

Step 33 | Separate the camera cover and flash assembly

Do not attempt to remove the camera cover and flash assembly completely.

  • Slide an opening pick underneath the camera cover and flash assembly to carefully separate it from the motherboard cover.
  • Leave the camera cover and flash assembly attached to the phone while removing other components.

The cable running underneath is very fragile, so be cautious when handling this area.

When folding the camera cover and flash assembly cable, avoid straining it.

  • Tweezers should be used to fold the assembly toward the battery.

Step 35 | Unfasten the motherboard cover screws

Remove the two Torx T5 screws, each 4.2 mm in length, using a Torx T5 screwdriver.

Return the camera cover and flash assembly to its original position to avoid any damage or dislodgement.

Fold the charging coil upwards towards the top edge of the phone.

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger under the bottom right edge of the motherboard cover.
  • Pry up with the spudger to release the clips holding the motherboard cover in place.
  • Repeat for the bottom left edge.

  • Pry the pull-tab off the battery with a pair of blunt nose tweezers or a clean fingernail.
  • Use the tweezers to remove any remaining pull-tab pieces from the left edge of the battery.

Step 40 | Loosen the battery adhesive

Prepare the Nothing Phone (1) by loosening the battery adhesive before removal.

  • iOpener: Apply heat for at least 2 minutes.
  • Alternative methods: Hair dryer, heat gun or hot plate may be used; however, avoid overheating.

Step 41 | Lift the battery

Hold the pull-tab firmly and gently lift the adhesive strip by pulling upwards.

  • The battery will now be lifted from its recess and swing into an upright position.

Step 42 | Remove the battery

Remove the battery.

Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as this poses a potential safety hazard.

  • Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape, applying it to the device's designated areas rather than directly onto the battery.
  • Press the new battery firmly into place.

During reassembly, temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard for proper alignment. Disconnect it once seated.

Step 43 | Unfasten the loudspeaker screws

Remove the Phillips and Torx T5 screws (both 4.2 mm long) securing the loudspeaker.

  • Pry up the loudspeaker using the spudger.

Use a spudger to disconnect the fingerprint reader cable. Pry the connector straight up from its socket.

  • Slide a pair of tweezers under the black coaxial cable, securing them against the metal connector.
  • Disconnect the black coaxial cable by prying it straight up from the daughterboard.
  • Carefully use your tweezers to loosen the cable's routing on the daughterboard, then bend it to one side.

Step 47 | Disconnect the white antenna cable

Slide a pair of tweezers under the white coaxial cable until they're snug against the metal connector.

  • Disconnect the white coaxial cable by prying it straight up from the daughterboard.
  • Use your tweezers to carefully loosen the cable from its routing on the daughterboard and bend it to the side.

Step 48 | Remove the SIM card tray

Insert SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into SIM card tray hole on bottom edge.

Pressing into microphone hole will not cause permanent damage, but be careful to avoid this possibility.

  • Eject SIM card tray using tool.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 49 | Unfasten the daughterboard screw
