Replace a swollen or dead battery in your Nothing Phone (1) if necessary. To prevent fire risk during disassembly:
Note: Your phone's IP rating may be affected.
Do not apply excessive heat that could damage the display or internal battery.
Secure a suction handle to the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.
If the rear glass is cracked, the suction handle may not stick — use strong tape or superglue to secure it in place and allow it to cure.
Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive, then leave it in place to prevent resealing.
Do not remove the opening picks, as this will cause the adhesive to reseal.
For slicing near the glyph, insert only ~2-3 mm of the opening pick's tip.
If adhesive hardens, it may be too cold — use iOpener (1-2 min) to reheat before continuing.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the phone.
Continue until the rear glass is fully separated from the frame.
Remove the rear glass.
Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installation to ensure a good bond. A stack of heavy books can help.
Apply heat to the earpiece speaker cover with a heated iOpener for 1-2 minutes, if needed.
Remove the Torx T5 screws from the earpiece speaker using a Torx T5 screwdriver.
Disconnect the flash assembly cable using a spudger, prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Insert the opening pick into the gap between the recording indicator light cover and the screen at the top right corner.
Be extremely cautious when handling the bottom LED assembly — a fragile cable is exposed underneath.
Never slide the opening pick further than indicated by the accompanying photos — damaging the cable is a real risk.
There is still adhesive holding the bottom LED assembly in place.
Insert one arm of a pair of tweezers into the gap at the right side of the connector bracket.
Pull toward the left edge of the phone to free the closure flap of the connector bracket.
If you're struggling, pull the black rubber piece to the left to give the bracket more room.
Disconnect the LED cable with a spudger by prying the connector straight up.
Remove the bottom LED assembly using either tweezers or your fingertips.
Remove the five Torx T5 screws with a length of 4.2 mm using the corresponding driver.
Hold the daughterboard cover firmly with one hand.
Avoid applying excessive force when prying up the daughterboard cover as this can cause damage to the fingerprint cable.
Position the pointed end of a spudger at the top edge of the daughterboard cover, just above the black rubber guard.
Remove the daughterboard cover using tweezers or your fingers.
Use tweezers to carefully remove the black rubber guard from the LED connector bracket.
Remove the LED connector bracket using a pair of tweezers.
Disconnect the interconnect cable by prying its connector straight up from the socket using a spudger.
Adhesive may still be present on the interconnect cable after removal.
Avoid sharp bending, which can cause cable damage.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Torx T5 screwdriver.
Insert an opening pick under the bottom right edge of the charging coil assembly.
Insert opening pick at bottom left edge of charging coil assembly.
Avoid straining components and cables when folding the charging coil assembly.
Remove the motherboard cover by unscrewing the three 4.2mm Phillips screws.
Return the charging coil to its original position.
Do not attempt to remove the camera cover and flash assembly completely, as its cable runs underneath the motherboard cover and is fragile.
Do not strain the camera cover and flash assembly cable when folding.
Remove the motherboard cover using a Torx T5 screwdriver.
Locate the charging coil and fold it upwards to access the motherboard cover.
Remove the LED glyph assembly.
Use a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.
Do not puncture or bend the battery with your tool, as this may cause a chemical leak or fire.
Beware of strong battery adhesive — risk of damaging cables underneath.
Grasp the pull-tab and pull upwards on the adhesive strip.
Remove the existing battery.
Press the new battery firmly into place.
