LED Glyph Assembly

Performing this repair may compromise your device's IP rating.

  • Remove the LED glyph assembly including rear camera cover, flash assembly, and motherboard cover.
  • Replacement adhesive will be required for reattaching the rear glass during reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the rear glass

Step 1 image

Apply an iOpener to the rear glass for 2+ minutes to loosen adhesives.

Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution: do not overheat the phone.

Be aware that excessive heat can damage the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Secure a suction handle along the bottom edge of the rear glass, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the rear glass is cracked, try using strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and let it cure before proceeding.
  • Lift the rear glass with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.

If you're having trouble creating a gap, be careful not to overheat, following iOpener instructions carefully.

  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a second opening pick near the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Guide this new pick towards the bottom left corner to break the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

When slicing near the glyph, insert only the tip (~2-3 mm) of an opening pick.

  • If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has cooled down; reheat for one to two minutes with your iOpener.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.

Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive. Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5

  • Insert a pick at the top right corner.
  • Slice the adhesive along the right edge with a sliding motion.
  • The rear glass should now be separated from the frame. If still attached, use a pick to remove remaining adhesive.

Step 7 | Remove the rear glass

Step 7 image

Apply adhesive with caution — incorrect bonding can lead to premature failure.

  • Remove the rear glass.
  • Clean the area where the new adhesive will be applied with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).
  • Apply new adhesive as needed.

For optimal results, use a dust blower to clean the transparent rear glass before installation.

  • Install the new back cover using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure for several minutes after installing the back cover.
  • (Optional) Use a stack of heavy books to apply additional pressure and promote bonding.

Step 8 | Remove the plastic cover

Step 8 image

  • Pry up the plastic cover using your opening pick.
  • Remove the plastic cover once it's loose.

Step 9 | Unfasten the earpiece speaker screws
