Nexus 5X Midframe Replacement

This guide is for replacing the midframe on your Nexus 5X. Follow along carefully to achieve a successful repair.

Step 1 | SIM Card Tray

  • Insert a SIM card ejection tool into the hole on the SIM card tray, located on the left edge.
  • Press in carefully to avoid damaging the SIM card or tray.

  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Rear Panel

Insert an opening pick into the SIM card tray slot and twist it to dislodge the first plastic clip.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone to release the remaining plastic clips.

Slide the opening pick around all edges of the phone, working slowly and carefully to release the clips holding the rear panel in place.

  • Check each side for a "click" as you move the pick, indicating a clip has released.

Insert the opening pick and tilt it to lift the rear panel slightly.

  • Identify the two plastic clips adjacent to the fingerprint sensor.
  • Pull the rear panel gently to release these clips.

Remove the entire rear panel carefully, taking note of any remaining clips or connectors.

Step 5 | Midframe

Remove the 10 3.6 mm Phillips screws securing the midframe.

Insert an opening pick into the SIM card tray slot and twist it sideways.

  • The plastic clips should release as you continue twisting the pick.

Step 7

Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the midframe, releasing the plastic clips.

Step 8

The midframe is prone to breakage at the long edge plastic clips, so proper disconnection is crucial.

  • Use a plastic pick to pry open the plastic clips on the long edge of the midframe.
  • Ensure the clips are fully released, particularly those at the long edge.

Step 9

Ensure all clips are released.

  • Remove the midframe with caution.
