Nexus 5X LCD Screen & Digitizer Replacement

Adhesive strength and device condition may vary — be cautious when removing components.

  • This guide replaces only the LCD screen and digitizer, not the entire screen assembly.
  • If your replacement part includes a plastic frame, you'll need to transfer additional parts (LED, vibration motor, ear speaker, headphone jack, power/volume buttons, and proximity sensor gaskets) to the new frame.

If your device has cracked or damaged glass, or dead pixels/display issues, this guide will help you restore functionality.

Use the edge of a spudger to gently pry up the battery flex cable from its connector at the bottom right corner of the motherboard.

Step 11 | Battery

Step 11 image

Apply heat carefully, as excessive temperatures can damage components.

  • Place the iOpener on the back of the phone and secure it in place.
  • Allow the iOpener to sit for at least two minutes before proceeding.

Deform the battery as little as possible during removal to prevent potential leaks or fires.

  • Use a spudger with the flat end to pry up from the bottom left corner of the battery.
  • Pry upwards gently, avoiding metal tools and excessive force.
  • The adhesive is only on the edges; do not pry into the center.
  • If stuck, apply isopropyl alcohol to each corner for several minutes to loosen the adhesive.

Remove the battery.

Do not reuse a removed battery as it poses a safety hazard.

Replace with a new battery.

  • Before installing, clean the glued areas of your phone using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to remove any remaining adhesive.
  • Apply pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape to secure the new battery in place.
  • Position the adhesive in areas where old adhesive was located, not directly on the battery.
  • Press the new battery firmly into place for 5-10 seconds.

Step 15 | Motherboard Assembly

Step 15 image

Apply heat from the iOpener to the top portion of the device for approximately 30 seconds.

  • Position the iOpener above the rear-facing camera module.
  • The adhesive should loosen with the applied heat.
