Nexus 5X Front-Facing Camera Replacement

This guide is for replacing the front-facing camera in your Nexus 5X.

Step 1 | SIM Card Tray

  • Insert the SIM card ejection tool into the hole on the SIM card tray.
  • Press in gently to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

Step 2 | Rear Panel

Insert an opening pick into the SIM card tray slot and twist gently to loosen the first plastic clip.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge of the phone, releasing the remaining plastic clips that secure the rear panel.

Slide the opening pick around all sides of the phone to release all clips holding the rear panel in place.

  • Apply gentle pressure as you slide the pick along each edge.
  • Continue this process until all clips are released and the rear panel can be removed.

Step 4

  • Tilt the opening pick to slightly lift the rear panel.
  • Liberate the two adjacent plastic clips near the fingerprint sensor by carefully pulling the rear panel.
  • Remove the rear panel completely.

Step 5 | Midframe

Remove the ten 3.6 mm Phillips screws securing the midframe.

Insert an opening pick into the SIM card tray slot.

  • Twist the opening pick sideways to release the plastic clips.

Slide the opening pick along the upper edge of the midframe, disengaging any remaining plastic clips.

Step 8

The midframe is susceptible to damage if the clips are not released correctly.

  • Use a plastic pick to pry open the plastic clips on the bottom edge of the device.
  • Pry open the plastic clips on the long edge as well, ensuring they are fully released.

Ensure that all clips are released.

  • Midframe removal requires care: proceed carefully.

Step 10 | Battery Disconnect

Use the edge of a spudger to gently pry up the battery flex cable, which is located at the bottom right of the motherboard.

Step 11 | Front Facing Camera

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up and disconnect the front-facing camera flex cable.

Step 12

Remove the front-facing camera from its recess using a pair of tweezers.
