Prying around the SIM card slot and volume controls can cause damage due to thin plastic.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to release clips on top and sides of the back cover.
  • The bottom is secured with adhesive foam; an opening pick should help free the back cover.
  • Release all clips except those near the midframe, then swing the back cover off from the top for easier removal.
  • To reattach: apply gentle pressure over "Nexus" and slide your thumb up towards the top to engage the snap near the flash window.

Step 2 | Midframe

Remove the six Phillips #00 screws (4.0 mm) securing the midframe.

Retain all six screws, as they hold the midframe securely to the motherboard.

  • The three small snaps on the back cover ensure NFC and wireless charging connections are secure.
  • For LCD/digitizer replacement, remove four additional 4.0mm daughterboard cover screws.
  • You may need to pierce clear adhesive material to access these screws.

Never puncture or bend the battery — risk of damage.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to pry the battery out of its housing.
  • If necessary, use a heat gun to apply gentle heat and soften the adhesive below the battery.
  • Dispose of the old battery: bag it up for recycling at an environmentally responsible location.
