Nexus 4 Speaker Replacement

Before starting, ensure you have a Nexus 4 and basic repair tools.

  • Identify the speaker module at the bottom of the device.
  • Take note of any screws or connections surrounding the speakers.
  • Disconnect the speaker connector and remove any visible fasteners.
  • Remove the speaker module from its housing, taking care not to damage nearby components.
  • Install new speakers by reversing these steps.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Press and hold the power button until you see "Power off" on the screen, then select it.

  • Use the SIM Card Eject Tool to carefully remove the SIM tray from the phone.
  • This step is required to access the back case for removal.

Step 2

Use a T5 Torx Screwdriver to remove the two screws located at the bottom of the phone.

Use a plastic opening tool to carefully pry along the edge of the case, starting at a corner.

  • Circle around the phone until the back cover is completely separated.
  • This process may take several minutes and produce a light snapping noise as the parts separate.

Step 4 | Battery

Remove the two 1.8 mm Phillips screws securing the battery connector.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to disconnect the battery cable from its socket on the motherboard.

Step 5 | Battery removal

Remove the blue tape securing the white antenna cable to the battery.

  • Disconnect the white antenna cable using a spudger.
  • Pry the battery out with a Plastic Opening Tool, starting at the top left-hand corner and working down towards the bottom right-hand corner.
  • Be careful, as the battery is securely glued to the phone.

  • If necessary, use a plastic card to separate the battery from the metal midframe.

When reinstalling the battery, press firmly against the adhesive strip.

Step 6 | Speaker

Remove the two 4.8 mm screws holding the speaker enclosure together with a Phillips 00 screwdriver.

Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry the speaker away from the back of the phone.

  • Lift the speaker up and out of the phone.
