Nexus 4 Power and Volume Button Replacement

Familiarize yourself with the location of the external power and volume buttons before proceeding.

  • Identify the right edge of the back cover.
  • The external power and volume buttons are located here, which will be removed and reinstalled later.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Press and hold the power button until "Power off" appears on screen, then touch it.

  • Use the SIM Card Eject Tool to remove the SIM tray.
  • This is a required step for removing the back case.

  • Remove the two screws located at the bottom of the phone.
  • Use a T5 Torx Screwdriver for this step.

Use a plastic opening tool to pry open the back case, starting at a corner and circling around the phone.

The plastic may make a light snapping noise as it separates from the phone.

The opening process can take several minutes.

Step 4 | Power and Volume Button

Hold the back case, and gently push the power button inward toward the phone's center using a spudger.

Push volume button inwards with a spudger.
