Nexus 4 Plastic Midframe Replacement

  • Midframe removal is necessary for accessing internal components.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.

Power must be completely off before proceeding — risk of electrical shock.

  • Insert the SIM Card Eject Tool into the SIM tray slot.
  • Pry out the SIM tray and remove it.

Failure to remove the SIM tray may damage internal components — risk of physical harm.

Step 2

Remove the T5 Torx screw located at each corner of the bottom of the phone.

  • Use a T5 Torx Screwdriver.

Use a plastic opening tool to carefully pry along the edge of the cover, starting at a corner and circling around the phone.

The opening process may take several minutes, so be patient — the plastic will make a snapping noise as it separates from the rest of the phone.

Step 4 | Battery

Remove the 2 x 1.8mm Phillips screws securing the battery connector.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to disconnect the battery cable from its socket on the motherboard.

Step 5 | Battery removal

Remove the blue tape securing the white antenna cable to the battery.

  • Using a spudger, carefully disconnect the white antenna cable.

Be careful not to damage any cables or components during this process.

  • Pry the battery out with a Plastic Opening Tool, starting at the top left-hand corner and working down towards the bottom right-hand corner.
  • Alternatively, use a plastic card to separate the battery from the metal midframe if necessary.

The battery is securely glued; press firmly against the adhesive strip when reinstalling.

Step 6 | Plastic Midframe

Remove nine 4.6 mm Phillips #000 screws.

  • Lift out the plastic cover carefully.
  • Release two clips on either side of the midframe using a plastic spudger.
  • Gently lift up and away to remove the midframe.
