Nexus 4 Camera Replacement

This guide covers removal and installation of the camera module situated on the motherboard's upper left corner.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Ensure your device is powered down before proceeding.

  • Press and hold the power button until it displays "Power off".
  • Select "Power off" from the menu to fully power down the device.
  • Use the SIM Card Eject Tool to safely remove the SIM tray.

Use a T5 Torx Screwdriver to remove the two screws located at the bottom of the device.

Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry the back case along its edge, starting at a corner and circling around the phone.

The process may take several minutes.

The back cover will snap free from the rest of the phone with a light noise.

Step 4 | Battery

  • Remove the two 1.8mm Phillips screws securing the battery connector.
  • Disconnect the battery cable using a plastic opening tool from its socket on the motherboard.

Step 5 | Battery removal

Remove the blue tape securing the white antenna cable to the battery.

  • Using a spudger, carefully disconnect the white antenna cable.
  • Pry the battery out with a Plastic Opening Tool, starting at the top left-hand corner and working down towards the bottom right-hand corner.
  • If necessary, use a plastic card to separate the battery from the metal midframe.
  • The battery is securely glued; press it firmly against the adhesive strip when reinstalling.

Step 6 | Plastic Midframe

Remove nine 4.6 mm Phillips #000 screws.

  • Gently lift out the plastic cover.
  • The midframe has two clips, one at each side, holding it in place.
  • Use a plastic spudger to release each clip and gently lift up and away.

Step 7 | Camera

Use a spudger to carefully pry the metal tab upwards.

  • Lift the disconnected black flap away from its original position.

Step 8

Use a spudger to gently pry up the black tab securing the camera to the motherboard.

  • Lift the camera module away from its socket.
