Nexus 4 Battery Replacement

This guide assists with two tasks: replacing the Nexus 4's battery, and disconnecting it for internal access.

Power down the device by holding the power button until it powers off.

  • Press and hold the Power off option on the screen for a few seconds.
  • Remove the SIM tray using the provided SIM Card Eject Tool.
  • This is necessary to access the back case.

Remove the T5 Torx Screwdriver and take out the two screws located at the bottom of the phone.

Pry open the back case along the edge, starting at a corner and circling around the phone using a plastic opening tool.

The process may take several minutes and will produce a light snapping noise as the cover separates.

Step 4 | Battery

  • Remove the two 1.8 mm Phillips screws securing the battery connector.
  • Use a plastic opening tool to disconnect the battery cable from its socket on the motherboard.

Step 5 | Battery removal

Remove the blue tape securing the white antenna cable to the battery.

  • Disconnect the white antenna cable using a spudger.
  • Pry out the battery with a Plastic Opening Tool, starting at the top left-hand corner and working down towards the bottom right-hand corner.
  • If needed, use a plastic card to separate the battery from the metal midframe.
  • The battery is securely glued — press firmly against the adhesive strip when reinstalling.
