Nexus 4 Audio Jack Replacement

This guide outlines the process for replacing the audio port situated on the motherboard, which can be accessed from the top right-hand side of the device.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Power off the phone by holding down the power button until "Power off" appears.

  • Use the SIM Card Eject Tool to carefully eject the SIM tray.
  • This step is necessary for removing the back case.

Remove the T5 Torx Screwdriver's screws at the bottom of the phone.

Use a plastic opening tool to pry along the edge of the case, starting at a corner and circling around the phone.

The plastic may make a snapping noise as it separates — be patient, this may take a few minutes.

Step 4 | Battery

Remove the two 1.8mm Phillips screws securing the battery connector.

  • Use a plastic opening tool to disconnect the battery cable from its socket on the motherboard.

Step 5 | Battery removal

Remove the blue tape securing the white antenna cable to the battery.

  • Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the white antenna cable.
  • Pry the battery out with a Plastic Opening Tool, starting at the top left-hand corner and working down towards the bottom right-hand corner.
  • The battery is securely glued to the phone. Reinstallation requires pressing the battery firmly against the adhesive strip.

  • If necessary, use a plastic card to separate the battery from the metal midframe.

Step 6 | Plastic Midframe

Remove nine 4.6 mm Phillips #000 screws.

  • Lift out the plastic cover using a gentle prying motion.
  • Release both sides of the midframe by prying at the clips with a plastic spudger, then gently lift up and away.

Step 7 | Audio Jack

Remove the gray connector at the top right of the motherboard using a spudger.

Lift the audio jack upward and leftward.

Remove the audio port by gently prying up on both the port and the ambient light sensor rubber cap.

  • Be careful not to damage the surrounding area.

    Move the rubber cap to the new audio port.
  • Secure the rubber cap in place on the new part before installing it into the phone.
