LG V50 ThinQ Camera Replacement

This guide is for experienced users only — a near complete teardown is required.

  • Watch online teardown guides by Jerryrigeverything (LG G8) and pbkreviews (LG V50) for valuable insights.
  • Prepare to spend 30 minutes to 2 hours on this repair, depending on your level of expertise.

For the repair, you will need a small Phillips head screwdriver and a spudger. A heat gun may also be necessary in some cases.

Step 1 | introduction : laying everything out flat

Clear a flat workspace by placing tools and phones nearby.

Removing the SD card and sim tray now will save time later.

  • The main camera module is identical on both LGV50 and LG8 models, despite physical differences.
  • Identify your model (e.g. Korean V50) to ensure correct parts are ordered for camera components.

Step 2 | korean lmv500n and lg g8 reference and differences

Careful: ordering incorrect parts may cause component damage or incompatibility issues.

  • Verify the correct region-specific part number for your LG model.
  • Be aware that minor differences exist between LG V50 and G8 components.

Do not use a knife to avoid damaging internal components.

Reference images are provided, showing a disassembled G8 with two cameras (compared to the standard three).

Note that camera components differ between LG V50 global and Korean models:

  • Korean model uses a triangular connector for the camera.
  • Global model shares camera components with the G8.

Step 3 | lcd display panel removal

Remove the LCD display. Apply heat for at least two minutes using an iPone tool or blow dryer to loosen adhesive.

  • Lift the display with a suction cup or prying tool, starting from one corner.
  • Pry around the display to separate adhesive completely.

Avoid prying more than 0.25cm into the phone to prevent damage.

Use a plastic spudger or picks instead of metal tools, which can damage internal components.

Step 4 | inner cover screw removal

Remove all screws from the top and left side of the device.

  • Identify and remove 3 screws above the camera, 3 in the middle below it, 3 on the bottom left, and 2 on the bottom right.
  • All screws are small Phillip head type; no special tools required.

Step 5 | plastic guard removal

Careful when lifting the wireless charging flap to avoid damage.

  • Remove the large display guard using a spudger.
  • Next, remove the long L-shaped guard on the bottom.
  • Lift the wireless charging flap gently, no more than 15 degrees.

Step 6 | connector removal

Remove the display connectors:

  • Disconnect the top front camera connector.
  • Remove the battery connector in the middle.
  • Disconnect the circuit connector on the left middle.
  • Be gentle when removing the bottom two wires to avoid damaging them.

  • Identify and disconnect these wires using a spudger.
  • Disconnection is not necessary, but you can also remove the audio jack connection on the bottom right for added security.

Step 7 | board removal

This step is the most challenging part of the procedure — approach with caution.

  • Remove any remaining components, such as the Sim SD card slot.
  • Gently lift the top board by 15 degrees or until you see the connector. Then use a spudger to disconnect the boards.
  • Lift and remove the board carefully, taking care not to damage it or the fragile front facing camera.
  • Consider removing the front facing camera entirely if necessary, rather than trying to reposition it.

Step 8

Remove the camera connector from the board.

  • Gently remove the camera module.
  • Replace it with your new part.

The LG v50 global edition has a triangle-shaped back connector, which is incompatible with the Korean model's connector (V50n).
