LG V40 ThinQ Screen Replacement

Power off your LG V40 ThinQ and disconnect from any external power source before starting.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Apply heat using an iOpener or hairdryer, rolling it along the phone's back for even warming.

Wait until the back cover is warm enough that an Opening pick can slide underneath without resistance.

To avoid cracking the back glass, use a gentle prying action with the opening tool.

  • Pry the back cover away from the adhesive, taking your time as it may require some effort.
  • Maintain slow and steady pressure to prevent damage or cracking of the back glass.

Careful not to damage the components, disconnect the fingerprint sensor from the back camera lens cover.

Remove the back camera lens cover and fingerprint sensor from the back cover using opening picks.

  • Set aside the fingerprint sensor for later use with a replacement back cover.

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the back cover to soften any old adhesive.

  • Soak a cloth or cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol, then gently rub the glue area to dissolve it.

Reapply adhesive to areas where old adhesive had been.

  • Use a thin layer, covering entire affected area.
  • Ensure new adhesive covers previously bonded surfaces only.

Step 7 | Battery

Disconnect the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker module by removing all fourteen 15mm long Phillips #000 screws.

Disconnect the battery press connector.

Be cautious when removing the battery, as excessive force may damage the cell.

  • Use opening picks to gently insert and pry the battery until it comes free from the adhesive.
  • Remove the battery slowly and carefully to avoid damaging its adhesive bond.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • Carefully disconnect the screen flex cable.

Apply the iOpener to heat up the screen.

The screen is ready for heating when an Opening Pick can easily glide underneath it.

Risk of screen breakage and potential injury.

  • Use a Opening Pick to gently pry the screen off.
  • Move slowly and carefully to avoid cracking or shattering the screen.

Remove the old adhesive from the screen surface.

  • Apply a small amount of new adhesive to the edge, starting at the top and working your way down.
  • Repeat this process for all four edges, ensuring even coverage in the same spots as the old adhesive.

  • Pass the screens flex cable from the front towards the back.
  • Secure the screens flex cable to its designated point at the rear of the device.

Press the screen firmly onto the adhesive for at least 5-10 minutes.

  • The glue will continue to set over the next 24 hours, taking a total of approximately 24 hours to fully harden.
