LG V40 ThinQ Power/Volume Buttons Replacement

Before starting, ensure your LG V40 ThinQ is powered off and disconnected from any power source.

  • Use a Jimmy tool to replace damaged or unresponsive power or volume buttons.
  • This repair can restore button functionality.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Apply gentle heat to the back cover using an iOpener or hairdryer, moving it up and down the length of the phone.

  • Continue heating until the back cover becomes hot enough for a Opening pick to be inserted between the cover and the phone body.

Avoid applying excessive force that may crack the back glass.

  • Insert the opening tool into a gap near the edge.
  • Pry gently but firmly until the back cover separates from the adhesive.

Careful removal is required to avoid damage.

  • Disconnect the fingerprint sensor from the back camera lens cover.

Remove back camera lens cover and fingerprint sensor using opening picks.

  • Set them aside; you'll need the fingerprint sensor for a new back cover.

Apply heat to the iOpener until warm.

Do not apply direct flame or excessive heat.

  • Lay the iOpener over the old adhesive on the back cover.
  • Gently rub with a cloth or cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new adhesive to areas with old adhesive residue.

  • Clean the surface thoroughly before application.
  • Avoid contact until the adhesive is fully dry.

Step 7 | Battery

Remove all 14 Phillips #000 screws that are 15mm long. They hold the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker module in place.

  • The coils/speakers will need to be completely removed from the case once all of these screws are out.
  • Be sure not to strip the screw heads during removal.

Disconnect the battery press connector.

Be cautious of damaging the battery during removal.

  • Use opening picks to gently pry the battery loose from its adhesive.
  • Pry slowly and carefully, taking time as needed, to avoid damage or ripping the battery.

Step 10 | Power/Volume Buttons

  • Use opening picks to detach the motherboard cables.
  • Remove the motherboard.

Avoid damage by disconnecting flex cables from button sensors before using a Jimmy tool.

  • Release the left flex cable.
  • Remove the right flex cable.

Be careful when using the Jimmy to avoid cutting yourself.

  • Use the Jimmy to gently remove the power and volume buttons.

  • Remove the protective tape from the power button.
  • Use the Angled ESD precision Tweezers to carefully remove the power button.

Remove the tape covering the volume buttons.

  • Use the Angled ESD precision Tweezers to carefully remove the volume buttons.
