LG V40 ThinQ Charging Port Replacement

Charging port damage or malfunction can prevent charging and may require this repair for other fixes.

  • iOpener, iFixit Opening Picks (Set of 6), Phillips #000 Screwdriver, and a Jimmy are required tools for this guide.
  • This guide is a prerequisite for other repairs; two previous guides must be completed before starting.
  • The repair process is difficult, so follow each step carefully to avoid damaging internal components.
  • Power off your device and disconnect from any external power source before starting the repair.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Apply heat using an iOpener or hairdryer, moving it up and down the back of the phone.

Continue applying heat until an Opening Pick can easily slide underneath the back cover.

Take your time when prying the back cover; it may crack if moved too quickly.

  • Use a pry tool on the opening.
  • Gently rock the pry tool back and forth to loosen the adhesive.

Careful removal of the fingerprint sensor connection is crucial to avoid damage.

  • Disconnect the fingerprint sensor cable.
  • Gently lift the fingerprint sensor away from the back camera lens cover.

Remove the back camera lens cover and fingerprint sensor using the opening picks.

  • Set them aside, as you'll need the fingerprint sensor for a new back cover.

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the back cover to loosen old adhesive.

  • Soak a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol for cleaning.
  • Gently rub the glue with the dampened swab until dissolved and removed.

New adhesive must be applied to prevent damage and ensure secure fit.

  • Locate areas with old adhesive residue on the back cover.
  • Apply a thin layer of new adhesive to these areas only.

Step 7 | Battery

Remove all 14 Phillips #000 screws with a length of 15mm.

  • The screws hold down the wireless charging coil and loudspeaker module.

Remove and disconnect the battery press connector.

Risk of damage or injury if not removed carefully.

  • Gently insert opening picks and slowly pry the battery until it is free.
  • Be cautious not to rip the battery from its adhesive.

Step 10 | Charging Port

Remove all motherboard connectors.

  • Lift the motherboard upwards, carefully removing it from the phone.

Disconnect the two press connectors from the charging port board.

  • Identify the two press connectors, located side by side.
  • Gently pull them away from the board.

Careful handling required for glued-down component.

  • Use an opening pick to carefully pry out the charging port.
  • The glued-down section of the charging port may require additional force or technique.
