LG V30 Battery Replacement

Replace the battery before proceeding — risk of fire/explosion if damaged or punctured.

  • Charges below 25% to minimize risk of fire/explosion during disassembly.

Remove the back cover using a plastic spudger and replacement adhesive.

Apply new adhesive to reattach the battery to the inside of the phone after removal.

The LG V30 Battery Replacement video is also available for reference, but this guide will walk you through a step-by-step process without it.

Step 1 | Power Off

Charge level should be below 25%.

  • Press and hold the Power/Lock key until the screen turns off.
  • Confirm by tapping Power Off twice.

Step 2 | Remove SIM Tray/Card

Insert a SIM card ejector tool or an unfolded paperclip into the small hole on the left side of the phone.

Press firmly, but avoid applying too much pressure which may damage the SIM tray slot.

  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray from the device.
  • To reinsert the SIM card tray:
    • Orient the SIM card with gold contacts up and notch at bottom right.
    • Press the card gently into the SIM tray slot.

Step 3 | Heat Backing's Adhesive

To avoid damaging internal components, do not apply excessive heat.

  • Apply a heat source (heat gun or alternative) to the back edges for approximately one minute.
  • This will softly heat and loosen the adhesive between the back cover and frame.

Be cautious of metal frame temperature, which may become hot to the touch.

Use a suction cup to gently lift the back cover.

  • Insert the edge of a plastic card into the gap between the cover and the frame.

Insert a second SIM card into the created slot, sliding it along the phone's bottom edge.

  • Make sure the notch on the new card aligns with the corresponding cutout in the phone casing.
  • Slide the card smoothly until seated firmly at the top of the slot.

Slide the cards along the remaining edges to release the adhesive.

Step 7 | Remove Back Cover

Careful handling required: avoid damage to the back cover or internal components.

  • Remove the back cover, ensuring the adhesive is sliced through on all sides.
  • Note: a new adhesive will be required for re-assembly.

Step 8

Remove ten Phillips #000 screws from the midframe.

Use a plastic spudger to carefully pry up the midframe of the phone.

Step 10 | Remove Midframe

Hold the midframe firmly and carefully pull it away from the phone's main body.

Use the plastic spudger to gently pry up the four press-fit connectors on the top portion of the motherboard.

Step 12 | Remove Speaker Assembly

Remove the speaker panel using a plastic spudger and take out the panel from your phone.

Preheat the phone with a heat gun or hair dryer, taking care not to overheat the battery.

  • Apply even heat to the front face for several minutes.

Beware: handling will be difficult due to increased temperature.

  • Use a heated iOpener across the top of the battery for 3 minutes to soften adhesive.
  • If multiple iOpeners are available, also apply one to the screen side.

Insert a plastic card at the bottom edge of the battery.

  • Gently work the plastic card around the left side of the battery, separating the battery from its adhesive.

Step 15 | Remove Battery

  • Use a plastic card to pry the battery upwards from its slot.
  • Lift the battery away from the phone using your fingers.
  • Note that this battery uses adhesive, so new adhesive will be required when installing a replacement.
