LG V20 Volume Button Replacement

Dirt, drops, or other impacts may render volume buttons inoperable.

  • Remove the volume button from the LG V20 phone according to this guide.
  • This will enable you to assess and replace the faulty component as needed.

Step 1 | Battery

A fully charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire or explode if accidentally punctured.

  • Discharge your phone's battery below 25% before disassembly.
  • Pry tool or fingernail: Insert under the battery at the small recess on the lower edge.
  • Be careful not to deform or puncture the battery, as this can lead to a hazard.

  • Pry up and carefully remove the battery.

Step 2 | Midframe Assembly

Remove sixteen 4mm Phillips #00 screws

  • Located at the edges, remove each screw one by one.
  • Continue until all sixteen screws are removed.

Check if top/bottom frame sections are loose by trying to pull them off with your hands.

  • If not loose, use a flat-end spudger to apply pressure at one corner of the frame section.
  • Continue until a small gap is created.

Flip the phone over.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap created earlier.
  • Slide the opening pick along the gap until the frame section releases from its plastic clamps.

Step 5

Remove the frame section.

  • Repeat for the opposite side.
  • Be careful with the small silver grating covering the speaker – may fall out.

Use an opening pick to carefully pry the loudspeaker away from the motherboard cover.

Locate the motherboard cover and its securing plastic clamps.

  • Use an opening pick to gently pry up the cover at the right corner from the bottom of your phone.
  • The cover should pivot out when it clears the plastic clamp.

Insert an opening pick into the mid frame and gently pry the plastic clamps apart by flipping the pick sideways.

  • The motherboard cover should now be free to remove.

Step 9

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Volume Button

Insert the flat end of a spudger into the gap between the volume button and its bracket.

Slide the spudger along this gap to dislodge the volume button from its bracket.

  • Gently rock the spudger back and forth to release the button's retaining clips.
  • Once released, carefully lift out the volume button.
