LG V20 Vibration Motor Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing the vibration motor on an LG V20 device.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Locate and press the button on the lower right side of the device.

  • The button will release a clamp holding the back cover in place.
  • Remove the back cover.

Step 2 | Battery

Never touch a charged lithium-ion battery to metal — risk of explosion.

  • Discharge battery below 25% before disassembly.
  • a spudger or fingernail under the small recess on the lower edge.
  • Pry up and carefully remove the battery.

Step 3 | Midframe Assembly

Remove all screws with a Phillips #00 head and a length of 4mm using a screwdriver.

  • Sixteen screws are attached to the back cover.
  • The screws secure the back cover to the motherboard.

Check if top and bottom frame sections come loose by hand.

If stuck, proceed with caution: Apply flat-end spudger pressure to a corner, creating a small gap.

Insert an opening pick into the gap on the underside of the phone.

  • Slowly slide the opening pick along the gap until the frame section separates from its plastic clamps.

Step 6

Remove the frame section.

  • Repeat this procedure with the other end of the phone.

Be careful when handling the top frame section's small silver grating, which covers the speaker and may fall out.

Step 7

  • Identify the loudspeaker mounted on the motherboard cover.
  • Pry up the loudspeaker using an opening pick.

Step 8

Locate the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover in place.

  • Insert an opening pick into the right corner at the bottom of your phone.
  • Pry up gently until the cover pops out of one of the plastic clamps.

Slide the opening pick along the mid frame, then flip it sideways to release the plastic clamps.

  • The clamps should now be disengaged, allowing you to remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10

Disconnect and remove the motherboard cover.

Step 11 | Front-Facing Camera

Disconnect the front camera flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

  • If you're removing the motherboard assembly, you can skip removing the front facing camera after disconnecting it.
  • Carefully remove the front facing camera with a pair of tweezers if needed; only grip the body of the camera to avoid damaging the sensor pcb, which is glued on and will be ruined by removal.

Step 12 | Motherboard Assembly

Disconnect the flex cable of the left rear camera using the flat end of a spudger.

  • The second rear camera will be removed with the motherboard
  • You can leave the front facing camera in place, but be careful while removing the motherboard assembly.
  • If you feel uncertain, remove the front facing camera with a pair of tweezers.

Step 13

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully disconnect the display flex cable.

  • Lift up the motherboard assembly with the pointed end of a spudger.
  • Carefully pull the motherboard assembly out.

Step 15 | Vibration Motor

Remove the vibration motor using a pair of tweezers.

If the vibration motor is stuck due to excessive glue, apply heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive and try again.
