LG V20 Secondary Rear-Facing Camera Replacement

This guide is for replacing the secondary rear-facing camera on an LG V20.

Step 1 | Battery

Discharge lithium-ion battery below 25% before disassembling, as a charged battery may catch fire or explode if damaged.

  • Insert a spudger or your fingernail into the small recess on the lower edge of the battery.
  • Pry up and carefully remove the battery without deforming or puncturing it.

Step 2 | Midframe Assembly

Remove the sixteen 4mm Phillips #00 screws holding the back cover in place.

  • They attach the back cover to the motherboard.

Check if top and bottom frame sections can be removed by hand.

  • If they come off easily, proceed with reassembly.
  • If not, use the flat end of a spudger to pry one corner of each section.
  • Apply pressure until a small gap forms, allowing removal.

  • Flip the phone and insert an opening pick into the gap.
  • Slide the opening pick along the gap to release the frame from its plastic clamps.

Step 5

Be careful not to lose the small silver grating covering the speaker.

  • Remove the frame section.
  • Repeat this procedure with the other frame section.
  • Within the top frame section, remove or gently lift out the small silver grating covering the speaker.

Use an opening pick to carefully pry up the loudspeaker from its attachment point on the motherboard cover.

Locate the plastic clamps holding the motherboard cover.

  • Insert an opening pick into the right corner at the bottom of your phone.
  • Pry upwards gently until the motherboard cover pops out of its clamp.

Flip the mid frame sideways while sliding an opening pick along it.

  • This will release the plastic clamps and allow you to access the motherboard cover.
  • The motherboard cover should now be free from its previous position.

Step 9

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Secondary Rear-Facing Camera

Apply heat from an iOpener to soften the adhesive under the secondary rear-facing camera.

Step 11

Disconnect the camera flex cable using the flat end of a spudger.

  • Remove the camera with a pair of tweezers.
  • If the camera is still stuck, apply heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive.
